Good morning to you as well. You did an awesome job on this hat ! This is the first video I've ever seen by you, and I'm glad I clicked ! If you can, please share the template you designed. I have been searching for the last few days online for a nice template, but I haven't found anything I really like. Yours however looks perfect for what I was looking for. I pray you're staying healthy and safe out there. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask. You've gained a new Subscriber ! 🙏✌️†

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I unfortunately don’t have the template I created for myself anymore but I do plan to make another one one day with a template that has different size options and I will be sharing that one. I’m not sure when I’ll be getting around to that one though.

That hat is too small but it is great you’ll need to make it sit lower it’s not like a baseball cap they are supposed to sit just above the eyebrow and just above the ear

Yeah I agree. If I were to make another one it would be bigger and I would add a sweat band but for a first attempt I think I got pretty close.

They looked amazing. How did you attach the horns to the skull? Just glue? and were they heavy at all to wear?
@idkcreations6807
@idkcreations6807 26 күн бұрын
I just hot glued it with tons of glue. They were really light so it wasn’t a problem. I did scuff up the plastic on the skull to help it stick and it still holds to this day.

As someone who, while having no experience with actual smithing, is interested in how medieval weapons were smithed, right off the bat I'd have recommended 2 things, though as I'm not an actual expert take these with a grain of salt. 1. hammer the entire piece of metal into a long strip, folded it on itself, repeated a few times, and then worked on the blade itself so as to remove any impurities or imperfections in the metal itself and 2. switched the sides being hammered more often so as to help make it straighter. I'll add on to this comment as I keep watching. 4:00 while I understand that you like the look, what you just did was introduce structural weaknesses into the blade, meaning that in actual use it would be easier to snap due to these ridges interfering with the way force would be transferred through the back of the blade. as a good advice, try to avoid cutting into parts of the blade that are likely to be put under a lot of stress when you're, for example, chopping through branches. In this particular use case, it wouldn't snap immediately, and the ridges aren't very deep either, but the blade would degrade due to wear and tear much faster. 6:00 I saw it earlier but I'll talk about it now, ONLY strike the metal while it is at least red hot, trying to hammer it like that when it is too cold is just going to damage it structurally. You need the metal to be hot enough to fuse to itself, otherwise you'll end up with microscopic cracks going through the knife. It's the same how if you keep bending a piece of metal over and over, it'll eventually snap, except you're weakening something that is very dependent on how resilient it is. it's not armour, which you could hammer into shape cold, but a blade. 8:26 Not actually an issue, but advice for if you decide to make more knives, you can give the blade a somewhat triangular profile if it's single edged, might be easier to hammer out for a beginner while also being something that was done with both single edged knives and some swords. 11:00 You really should've heat treated the handle too so that it is not brittle, so next time remember to find a taller container for the oil Overall, to my eye this looks like an excellent knife for someone with no experience at all. If you ever want to look up some smithing techniques, then the show Forged in Fire as well as smithing channels like AWE me and his Man At Arms: Reforged are good places to use as reference if you've not seen them before

KZbin threw your video at me because I was looking at various crafting videos including shoulder holsters. Nice work on the hat, particularly making your own pattern from a hat you already own that you know how it fits so you can adjust the pattern. I’ve found that for projects like this a known starting point really helps. A tip for telling if a piece of leather is real or not- grab a small scrap piece in a pair of pliers and take it outside. Hold fire to it and see what it does. If it burns with little smoke, and smells like burning meat and turns to ash, it’s real leather. If it produces black smoke with little fluffy clumps, smells like burning plastic and turns into a molten blob, it’s fake. Whether it’s real or not may not matter if you’re just going for a look. If you want the same durability and ability to take dye and waterproofing, it matters a lot. Ask me how I know…

Another way to avoid the dye changing the shape is to dye (and finish) the leather before you even cut out your pieces

This might be a bit late but other than everything I learned and showed in the video I would make sure to take the time to figure out the hat's sizing for your head. I would also leave a bit of space for a sweatband inside the hat because I didn't, and I wish I did because the hat will leave an imprint on my head with the stitches clearly visible lol.

What an awesome build .I have couple of questions because you don't sell a Basic pattern.How wide is brim from middle circle to edge? Also how tall is center from brim? Thank you so much.I was so impressed I subscribed and liked...thanks again
@adventure.period7762
@adventure.period7762 8 ай бұрын
The brim is 3 1/5 inches wide, the top peace of leather (or middle circle) is 6 inches wide and 8 inches long, and the side peace of leather is 4 1/2 inches tall. When the hat is formed it is 3 3/4 inches tall from brim to top. These dimensions are meant to fit my head that has a 37 inch circumference. Hope this answers your question.
