The limit point is the furthest distance that we can see to be clear and be able to stop in on our side of the road and in that distance. So basically, and many road users don't realise this its not just about blind bends or indeed about any bends at al, its everywhere whilst on a road. Its the furthest distance that one can see which is unobstructed. What we see is a car and cars in front of us and that last car that is immediately in front of us so its the furthest unobstructed distance that we can see and thus the distance that we can stop in without using the opposite side of the road. Assume that that car comes to a sudden and unexpected immediate halt!!!!! have you giving yourself enough safe distance in which to stop in and avoid hitting it? That is the constant question all the time. So our limit point is any vehicle or obstruction in front and we must always be able to stop in the distance that we give to any vehicle or obstruction in front. The safe stopping distances in the H.C are a good indication of such. Remember also that our stopping distances as in the H.C. are on a level and straight road with a good dry surface but we are going up and down slight inclines and around slight or sever bends and its not always a dry road it could well wet or just damp but both make a difference to our braking abilities. So we must also take these things into account and increase our limit point for braking purposes when necessary and appropriately. So give even more space all of the time and remember to give the minimum of the 2 second rule all the time, then you will be safer on our roads.
