1:50 this statement is confusing, because though the leaders in the Pentagon and by extension the chiefs of the different armed serves branches are elected (neither all the staff for Congress or the President), they all take guidance from elected officials. Congress has oversight and sets fiscal and legal boundaries on the armed forces. The president's policy flows through the NSC to the service chiefs. It's illogical to think that every member in every institution could be elected. The people who control those institutions already are. So what seems to be a problem here doesn't quite make sense in the way that it's presented.

It strikes me, though, that the Lebanese government and Hezbollah are happy to agree to a ceasefire when they're on the ropes, 3 weeks to reconstitute. I don't see why Israel is to blame for pushing harder when they are on the front foot. Is that really Israeli intransigence?

Extremely biased analyst who refuses to call out Hezbollah and its sponsor Iran as well as its criminal and autocratic dealings. He also calls the attack by Hezbollah on Israel with two kidnappings „a pretext“ and he conveniently ignores the fact that Hezbollah attacked Israel on October 8th

I guess its clear to see whos side this "expert" is on. Israel has beed dismantling Hizballah war infrastructure day by day is southert Lebanon. "Weird" they were not mentioned yet.

If there is an occupier of Lebanon it's Hezbollah. This bloke is spouting toxic drivel. If the Lebanese Army and state, and Unifil, for that matter, are collaborating with Hezbollah, then they are accomplices to its crimes and had better watch out.
@MrBoazhorribilis13 күн бұрын
This man is a smooth LIAR and PREVARICATOR. - There was no provision to let Hizballah keep its weapons. - There was no provision that would allow Hezbollah to keep the weapons " hidden" . This is preposterous and funny. - There was no other provision concerning armed presence other than the one of the sovereign Lebanese National Army. No Hezbollah in any capacity. - The only legitimate force to defend a sovereign nation is its military. NOT the Iranian stooges they financed. Hezbollah took and still take orders only from Iran. - Hochstein is not an Israeli / American. He was born in Israel to American parents but currently he is strictly an American citizen. - The Israeli aggression started only after the Iranian stooges in Hezbollah bombed Israel with thousands of rockets for months. .......... and much more prefabrications but the bottom line, my friend , is that this time Hezbollah will not be given any chance of reforming like they did in the past. The game is coming to an end.

Completely. I'm five minutes in and you'd have no idea from listening to to him talk that Hezbollah was honeycombed throughout all of southern Lebanon in defiance of 1559 and 1701. You also wouldn't know that Hezbollah provoked the 2006 war.

A very strange discussion when he says that the Libanese army needs all help in order to keep Israel out of Libanon. Israel is not a threath to Libanon as soon as nobody (Hezbollah) is firing missiles on Israel. In all the years Hezbollah has transformed south Libanon to a Swiss chease - why, to attack Israel. The Libanese state (and army) has to choose if to have an own country leaving in peace with Israel or to continue being a hostage of Iran through Hezbollah. The discussion if to trust the Israel government is clear - as long as Hezbollah is the party to discuss peace with then there is no solution. The peace has to be with the libanese government, without Hezbollah.

He hides facts such as the fact that in 2006 Hezbollah invaded Israel, killed soldiers and kidnapped them and because of that Israel could not ignore it. That is why the war started. Why is he hiding it? You can hear that he hates Israel. He has no credibility.

The empirical fact that James K. Galbraith's extremely pertinent and incisive analyses are practically absent from even specialized macroeconomic and financial discourse and media, while the foolish and consistently wrong analyses and predictions of the likes of Larry Summers and Jason Fuhrman are repeated ad infinitum and nauseam, ought to tell us something about the actual state of our society.

I usually agree with Mr. Sachs on all but this, his steadfast belief in the "good intentions" of the UN. This is pure Pollyanna thinking of the highest order. The global community isn't interested at all in "helping reverse poverty" or in improving the lives of the ignorant masses, only in furthering their own personal desire for wealth building and hegemony. If this were true, poverty would have been wiped out a century ago. He really needs to read the book "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins, which presents in shocking detail how countries like the US go into Third World nations promising to build their infrasture (with hydroelectric dams and extractive industries, for example), only to steal their natural resources, put them in irreversable debt to international bankers, then leave the indigenous people in even worst condition than they were before.

Somewhat concerned that Millie wants dictatorial power for two years. It is dangerous to give anyone that power they will abuse it and in all cases seek to keep it. Hope the parliament vote this part of legislation/omnibus bill down.
