I've been using a 1.6" auger to try and provide my trees' roots some air and adding Espoma holly-tone. Those twists with your drill are no joke. It hurt my wrists just looking at your drill twisting. But thank you for letting me know that even though I don't have a $25K+ setup with an AirSpade, that my auger bit might work.

2 Questions. Do you still have turf damage concerns going the pre emerge route with sulfentrazone at the 4oz/ac applications. The other question, if doing a blanket spray with an infested yard, if you suggest the combo of dismiss and sedgehammer, what rates would you suggest with your experience. Trying to establish a program here in IA. Thanks! Jeff K
@TheGrassFactor11 күн бұрын
@@jeffkelderman8737 at 4oz/acre you're likely to still see damage, because it's particularly tough on young, fleshy vegetation - like in the spring. If running the dual combo, full rate of sedgehammer, 4oz/A sulfen

I have some arborvitaes that are struggling on my clay rich soil. I basically have about 3-6 inches of mediocre top soil and underneath is the thickest clay I've ever seen. My trees are starting to brown, is there any hope for me? :(

I noticed that my clay soil is hard as cement when dry, but I put gypsum in soil just a about 80 lbs to about 9000 sq ft which isn't much thinking of adding more. I also hauled in 2 yds compost and about a yd of wood chips. I think that the gypsum improved the soil it soft when wet?

We have such HARD land in our small back field because of erosion. I hope I have fixed the problem brought to us by our neighbors directing a man made trench straight to our back field that has caused so many problems. But the ground is so hard that I doubt we can use a mechanical aerator. It would break the machine. Any suggestions on how to help our ground absorb more water?

Maybe they should stop selling specticle flo for more per oz than Rezilon and Esplanade which are 2.5+ times as concentrated. And it's easy to convert the two products (Rezilon to Specticle). You just divide the amount on the specticle label (which can range from 3-9 oz/ Acre of specticle) by 19.05 / 7.4. It'll typically be 1-2 ML per yard for the 3 oz/ Acre rate used for split apps. So you need a 3ML syringe to get these kinds of measurements right since you might be dealing with 1.2 ML etc.

Good points but I once heard feed the soil not the grass, adopted this strategy and haven’t looked back. I switched from scotts program to organics, i took about 3 years to get soil where i needed it. Once established the lawn has never looked better, the soil is making my lawn grow healthy and thick but weeds are a struggle as nothing organic kills them. I bought a pH tester and find when pH is spot on new grass seed germinates crazy fast and helps some with weeds.
@TheGrassFactor2 ай бұрын
organics convert into the same nitrates, nitrite molecules that conventional fertilizers do. if you're having success with one over the other, it's not the soil, it's the timing and rate forgiveness - not because it's organic

@@TheGrassFactor Maybe so but I am all over the place with my applications in the front not following any strict schedule, it could be me but I swear I’ve noticed a difference after switching because with scotts if i missed an application grass yellowed in heat (same watering schedule). Yeah the Carbon Connection guy “dispelled” any study like this because the big universities are paid by the giant mechanical aeration companies to put these studies out there. Btw, Matt, you have some big fans in that group cause your name was brought up a couple of times in that post. That guy could not carry on debate over liquid aeration because all he knows how to do is name drop “studies” with zero links to the literature itself. I think he went into a group of folks that maintain their own lawns to try and sell something very few members if any would have bought which says a lot.
