Yeah, if you're an enthusiast of any kind, and can drive manual, get the WRX and then start dumping mods on it if you want to. Dumping mods on a 2.5i has the unfortunate look that you can't afford a WRX and you're being a poser, no matter how clean it is. I did see a very well done 2.5i with a full modification of the interior and exterior with all OEM STI parts. I respected it - guy took his time and only went for an OEM look. I just got my son his second car, dumping his headache 2015 Sonic for a 2006 Impreza. Boy was he pissed - a NINE year older car!!?? He blamed it on me being a Subaru fanatic (he's right to an extent) but given I'm paying for it, I shut him down. Interestingly, though, over just 90 days, he's come to really like it. With 174 hp, it's quicker than his turbo Sonic. I installed a nice modern double din touchscreen Pioneer head unit, reverse camera, and replaced some of the rough interior bits with new OEM parts. It's a Texas car, almost rust free. I put a small lip spoiler on it, JDM Kouki tal lights ($250, steal) a front lower grille guard...and it just got H&R OEM WRX replacement springs, new brakes and Sparco wheels/Continental tires (mega-steal from Tire Rack, both closeouts.) Anything rusty under the hood is being replaced or refinished. He has nice aftermarket projector headlights (black, with modern C-lights) but I'd prefer a more understated silver version. I'm going to re-spray the front bumper cover and refinish some of the rear bumper cover. But then it stops. It's a 2.5i and a great looking one at that. No posing. He likes it plenty. And he gets to use my 2022 WRX GT at times, so he's all good. Like every car I've ever owned, when it comes time to sell it, I will have it looking near-new and likely "lose" very little money. Even 2.5i's are in high demand.

I love my 06 2.5i, they can seriously be fun especially with the 5 speed standard, I bought my car with an Injen tuned CAI, Tsudo Catback, the same headlight housing your son has I’d assume and 04 STI tail lights. I’m not crazy ab the idea of modding a 2.5i like that either but besides the STI tails making it look like something it isn’t from behind (no spoiler thank god), it’s just a nice looking, rumbling but not ear deafening 2.5i with some decent gas mileage

Yes you have to buy aftermarket uel headers for that, most na subies have equal length headers.

@@iSaucxyythe rumble is due to manifold design, not the turbo. The non-turbo will sound different since the manifold design is different.

I have a 08 subaru impreza hatchback 1.5r, is it possible to engine swap i5 to an wrx or sti engine..maby or a 2.5 turbo engine? Plus all the extra upgrades it needs ofc.

yeah you could swap any Impreza with any other Impreza/WRX engine

Yes it’s very common. The cheaper route is obviously a wrx swap I believe your 2.5i transmission should bolt up to the wrx motor. As well as the axels. Maybe not the wheels but the other thing as well is you’re going to need a full harness , ecu , cluster and maybe cutting the fire wall on the passenger side to fit the Downpipe. As for the Sti conversion. Well let’s just say it’s cheaper & easier just buying one. You would need a full Sti drive train to make it work on your car. Everything from axles , brakes , transmission, transmission mounts, ecu , cluster, literally almost everything. The only way I can see you doing the swap is if you buy a totaled Sti for a very good price & being mechanically inclined. Otherwise it gets expensive very quick getting solo parts one by one. Or the other route I’ve seen is going with a wrx motor & Sti drivetrain. The transmission is very strong & it look cool having some nice gold Brembos lol

Hey man I have a 06 Impreza and a 2016 sti . Long story short it is very possible . Part of the subframe has to get swapped out with the wrx subframe to fit the down pipe . Or you could ad a notch into the stock one . I’m currently working on swapping my 06 na to a sti motor that I have blown up

If I had my Impreza still and had the option to go turbo or supercharger, I would go supercharger route, there's another lad named goldguy who turbo charged his regular 2.5i lots of struggle but he did it.
