When I heard Dua LIpa was working with Kevin Parker and Danny L Harle, I was excited. But the production is a bit too watered down IMO. It's like buying a Ferrari only to keep in your garage because you're afraid of getting it scratched. This album felt like it barely scratched the surface compared to what it could've been.

You described "Misery Loves Company" perfectly. It reminded me of t.A.T.u. and "Destroy Me" is my favorite. It has a Rina Sawayama "XS" vibe to it with the abrasive use of guitars. This was my favorite and most played album for 2023. Her 2021 EP was when I hopped back on the RB train. She's really coming into her own and I love the sounds she's explored so far. I saw her tour this album and she's got stage presence and great vocals to match.

heyyyy! I just finished watching your reaction to madison beer’s album silence between songs, and I’m not sure if you’ve taken a listen to anything else by her, but I would LOVE to see a reaction to her debut EP as she pleases, and also her debut album life support! For context, ASP has a great sound, however the writing isn’t SUPER in depth due to most of them not being written by madison herself. She sounds incredible though! On LS though, she wrote on all 17 tracks and co produced 16 out of the 17 tracks. In this album, it’s definitely where she found more of her sound, and also it is somewhat of a concept album, sort of switching between feelings in the songs as it goes on, mainly inspired by madison being diagnosed with BPD and wanting to sorta demonstrate that idea in an album form! In the LS reaction (if you make one), I would suggest listening to her song Dear Society FIRST, then getting into Life Support. I hope you are able to see this and check them both out! Love your reactions!🤍

I loved this album.. I didn't want the same old same old this is such a vibe. I think Maria, These Walls & Happy For You are amazing.. I know a lot of people have judged it on the singles & not really given it a real listen, the production is fantastic & Dua has done some serious work on her vocals as well as her dancing in the break between albums.. Love it!

This album actually reminds me a lot of the Shania Twain 'Up' era. Which I absolutely adore. Especially the instrumental choices and the way she flips to her head voice in 'These Walls.' But Overall it has a very beachy pop meets country vibe that is definitely unlike a lot of her past music. I have found this album to be a grower and every time I go back I like it more and more. I hope she releases a deluxe with some extended versions of a few songs because this 3 minute or less era of pop music is not for me.

Can you also check out the extended versions of the singles in a different video. It really gives a different perspectives on the songs, listening wise. Also by radical Optimism it just means an Optimistic outlook on relationship matters I think for French exit ( I should just live without saying my goodbyes to avoid heartbreak ( a blindsided kind of optimism)
@Somzy16Ай бұрын
I really think this album is somewhat experimental but not the regular versions of the singles but the extended versions ( an extended version of the album I hope for). The album is a grower and more cohesive in terms of thought and not an instant hit like future nostalgia. I really do agree with most of your takes

Don’t say love was about the little mix fans and how she felt unloved by most of them. My love connects to dsl as a rebirth which is why in the video she dives in the water at the end of dsl and the beginning of my love she comes out of the water as a rebirth. I love all her songs especially her ep songs it’s so her and she gets to be herself.

I totally agree with your overall takeaway of the album! I'm a huge Dua fan, and when she started talking about this album as a "big sonic departure" from her previous work, I was so intrigued. But the three single choices are like... the three songs on this album that are most similar to her past most successful singles? So... I love the songs, but the messaging felt off. But yeah, this album is definitely a grower and not as "instant" as Future Nostalgia for sure. It's deeper lyrically, but not as catchy sonically tbh. But I still like the album a lot. Falling Forever should have absolutely been called How Long (it's a more intriguing title at face value AND it would be title twins with an amazing Tove Lo song) and would have been a better "sonic departure" pre-release single without being drastically different like These Walls would have been, for example. And Happy For You is one of the best songs in her entire catalogue imo, and it's really interesting placing that song after Maria because in HFY, she basically BECOMES Maria. Anyway, great reaction/review! Also I haven't seen anyone else pick up on the similarities between French Exit and the Gerudo Valley theme, but that was literally the first thing I thought of on my first listen 😂

I think the biggest problem with this album is that the whole things is a bit forgettable. There wasn't a single point where I thought, I can't wait to see what people think of this part. It doesn't really experiment or test anything new. Follow that up with I don't think anything could compare to future nostalgia. I truly believe that any album Dua put out would not have lived up to how good future nostalgia is. Especially when she is still trying to do a similar sound. I think it could have helped if she did a more drastically different album. Kind of like what Oliva did with Sour vs Guts. in my mind those albums are hard to compare because they are so different. So I feel like people ended up just saying that both albums were good. Instead of trying to pick one.
@z4ch4r6Ай бұрын
Yeah! I hope she experiments with the next one and makes a bold move! 😅

Enjoyed the reaction a lot! I feel like coming after an album like Future Nostalgia that's pop canon, this wouldn't live up to that standard. There's decent music on this album and I enjoy listening to it, but it's just so hard to recapture the feel of Future Nostalgia while not straying too far sonically. Happy for You, Falling Forever, and These Walls are truly the best songs where the rest isn't as remarkable as a whole, just vibes.
