@joshmccraty70645 күн бұрын
Yes, thanks for making the video! Crazy how not even CI made videos showing how the hook is really supposed to fit properly under the door. And then how to actually grab the handle when through. Also I was going to remove the end of the cord from that overly thick plastic part and just tie it off with a triple wrap and a double overhand style slip knot. Won’t come off and no added bulk. I’ve been working on modifying mine (or making a new one with some alterations) that would allow two different cords to be attached, one to snag the pivot like what the hook was supposed to do easily, and the other to do the same pull down handle release motion. Just need to bend an additional curve at the tip of the existing looped and that turns to the side by about 4 inches. But a slow curve so you don’t have trouble sliding under the door. (If you use the knotting technique instead of having to use the bent looped end that’s there now it’s quite easy to make) Then attaching the first cord to the end of that piece where it only had a threaded on eye loop barely bigger than the wire size (I have threading tools in my workshop) and a small piece of scotch tape to hold it back at the original 90 degree bend down to the existing curved eye you see now. So you first leave that new cord loose in the hand. Then once you’ve slid the normal operation of the tool to the side to get the main cord up to the handle pivot in between the handle and the door, then you pull the other cord which rips the scotch tape and pops over to dangle from the tip of the new added section. Now you have a cord on the opposite side of the handle pivot which just has to be somewhat taught to keep the unit from sliding off as it turns the handle. I figure you’d just pull a little tension on that aux cord and then step on it with your shoe before using both hands for the normal operation of the assembly. Any thoughts? (Love modifying stuff to make them better🤓)

But I'm still torn on the reaper kit I watch the entirety of your review and I really want the turning tools+ #1&2 pick profiles, but given how much I dislike the medium hook I feel like I'm going to really dislike the three hooks in the McNally kit just because there's so much deeper I don't like the medium hook cuz it's a deep bend and I have a hard time not hanging it up

@ Don’t give up on deep hooks my friend! So funny how you wrote that. Literally was going to make a video today about not being discouraged to go deeper! Wish I did now, and that settles it, going to make that when I can. Deeper hooks can really make a job a lot faster and frankly less frustrating. @PETEfromPA i was inspired to build something similar to what the Not So Civil Engineer built and after playing with it a while I starting thinking that what might need to be considered is a re-design of the the basic tool itself. I'm trying to figure out a way to thread the end of it 🤔 so that I can put specific tools on the end for what ever type of situation you might find. Crash bars for instance. He made a hook modification to the end of a UDT so that he could operate the crash bar. Thats what got me thinking about threading the end and makes specific tools.

Im glad someone finally made a video about CI's under door tool. Okay so the thing about the grappling hook is you can definitely get that under doors. The door has to have a certain amount of space obviously but if you start with the grappling hook tip facing up, you can work it through and slide the rest of tool with it. But your right, its definitely not easy to work it without seeing. Infact its something i would only use if i had my UDT modded with a Borescope. Its just too hard to tell whats going on without seeing. You probably wouldn't need it in a real scenario with a door that has a window. The keyback is pretty thick too, but im pretty sure CI wants you to buy this with their air wedges. Alot of people use these tools with those anyways. One tip about the grappling hook is if you have the right kind of pliers. Try to open it up a tiny bit, just enought to make it easier to put on because its no joke hard lol also find some more tighter heat shrink wrap and double it. The ones they give you dont hold on tight enough

That pick has been a game changer. It's in my top 3. I'll usually try it 1st right side up, then upside down (yes, it tickles both ways), then an offset hybrid, and a full dent. SPP if those fail... Of course rakes are nice, I've just gotten to the point I like the 3 picks I mentioned. It sucks they don't sell the Mctickler alone. I just ordered some blanks though to make one in .025, a longer one, and I'm going to try making a couple changes to the profile with the others. They are definitely a bit too short for 7 pin locks, and kinda tricky with some 6 pin locks. Overall, the best pick ever,... Those short tension tools that come with it are pretty nice too. They have similar tension tools, but once again those exact ones can only be purchased in that set.
