US race timing is a joke...

How so?, at least the tracks are relatively consistent and you dont have horses running on the outer rail making the race a furlong and half longer, and the time for the race irrelevant. In my experience times are much more meaningful tools for handicapping american races than uk/ Ireland races.

By the way, if you hand timed the race and got a slower time, then google "run up in American horse racing". It makes the timing of the timed portion of the race more accurate.

@@leobowman8149 exactly my point. Run ups are ridiculous and makes the comparison of records across racing centers (which is already flawed) unworkable. US racing has been cooking the books for years.

@@bgardiner3354 not familiar with british lingo lol, and I know run up sounds stupid but it makes sense for a two main reasons. The start of the race is likely to be the most inconsistent part of a horses performance. Sure, some horses consistently act up in the gate, but its unlikely that they will consistently break late or slowly from the gate. If only there was a way to isolate the timing of the race to when the horses are in full stride. The effect of a poor start on a race time is immeasurable unless you know what the average acceleration rate is of the horse, which you don't. The other reason is that we race on ovals, which means some races would start too close to a turn if they were run at the listed distance, without run up.

@@leobowman8149 cooking the books means cheating (I'm Australian not Brirish). None of your reasoning makes sense... unless you think that these conditions don't exist elsewhere? I once had a discussion with someone who truly believes that Gamine could run her first qtr mile 1.5 secs faster than Black Caviar. It's a load of nonsense

I got a last minute tip on him in his first race. With about 2 minutes to post a friend walks in and says this 2 horse is the nuts. I got off the horse(Long Weekend #5) I was singling in the pk 4 and singled Dennis' Moment. That was the race where he checked on the rail and Albarado flew off. Of course, Long Weekend won the race and I would have hit the pk 4.

Too bad he went south, I have him along with Maxfield, Enforceable and Tiz the Law in $10 pool 2 exactas underneath Authentic. Nadal is out of the way and Charlatan wasn't on the scene at the time. My payouts would be roughly $1000 with Tiz the Law, $2200 with Maxfield and $3300 with Enforceable. At least I go into the derby with some good potential payoffs and can then hedge with Authentic on top of some others and use some different horses in the horizontals. Sorry for the long winded post!
