Yea, we're sad about it... we were notified about this from several people and actually found the video on youtube and Envision is just pieces. He said he was going to take her down to key west and write a 2nd book while living on her. He owned an O'day 28 before, he said. You just don't know, and it looks like the boat was not storm-prepped at all. Sails still on, etc.

That was me when I bought Knot Enough. I was able to scrape together $1,500 and we kept her out in an anchorage for nothing... but it was rough rowing out to her, and made it hard to work on her. But it's possible! I looked at some real piles of crap to find one that was just a half pile.

Yes, we had a few people say that, thanks for letting us know. Susy and I looked for hours and could not find the video but then a guy in our marina sent a screenshot and we got the video name and could see the time stamp and found it. Really sad... so much work on that boat, I was hoping she would live on a while longer.

Thanks for the tour. All the Catalinas are nice, even the smallest ones. V-berth is the word. The side stays are called shrouds. Ropes are called lines when used on a boat. Not trying to be rude. It's important to have the right names for things to avoid confusion.

I've been to sea in everything from small boats to ballistic missile submarines. I'm also an instrument rated private pilot. I've experienced some scarry stuff. Anytime weather or atmospheric conditions are involved.... the best plans go out the window when nature decides to mix things up. There is nothing worse than losing confidence in your craft. Remember the saying; "You will usually quit before your boat does." That being said. Yes, you were very fortunate. Broaching in a heavy following swell is scarry. Especially if you get knocked down. So remember that THIS IS HOW WE LEARN. You had a rough trip, GOOD! You learned valuable lessons about being prepared. Knowing that all of your gear & rigging was up to any task. You learned not to push timelines. It is really tough to sail on a strict schedule. You time pressured yourselves into a tough situation for the boat you had. The list goes on. The important thing is to correct your errors and get back out there. Make short day trips when it's blowing 15-20 to improve your skills & build confidence before going off shore again. We perform the way we train. I give you a lot of credit for being resilient & tenacious. You made it home. A wise old WWII fighter pilot (my father) once told me; "It is better to be on the ground wishing you were flying than flying wishing you were on the ground.". Thank you for your humble & frank videos. We can all learn from them.

A neighbor gave me his 1982 Catalina 22 which was in his backyard for 14 years open to elements colleting rain, leaves… The boat is in very bad condition, but it is an interesting project to restore it. The parts you changed, did you purchased them through Catalina Direct or through other channels? Also, I had to throughout all inside cushions since they were damaged by squirrels, any idea where I would be able to get some? I don’t see them listed in Catalina direct parts list
@AdventuresInParadise
@AdventuresInParadise 28 күн бұрын
Yea, Catalina direct, unless you want to try to find used parts on Ebay, they exist. For the cushions, you should just make them. You can find them on ebay, but they might be smelly and old.

In hunting for RVs, boats or vehicles I tend to follow some basic rules: 1. If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Scams are everywhere out there but thankfully they are fairly easy to spot once you've seen a few of them. And I'm not talking about people that don't want to disclose everything or even actively lie I'm talking about people who are selling are claiming to sell something that doesn't even exist for some nefarious purpose. Maybe they are fishing for some of your info, maybe it's something even worse. But if it's brand new or immaculate and dirt dirt dirt cheap beware. 2. If there is very little info or a complete lack of photos it's a hard pass for me. If people are unwilling to take any photos it's probably because they are trying to hide something. If people aren't sharing a lot of information in the description it's because they don't know what they are selling or because they are trying to hide all the janky details. Either way 2 photos and a single sentence description is usually a waste of time. 3. People who claim something needs only "minor" repair. For instance a vehicle or RV has an AC not functioning that the person claims "just needs a freon charge". Odds are that minor repair isn't so minor or they would have taken care of it already. 4. People who make it hard for me to come look at their item or people who try to pressure me into looking at it yesterday. Yeah I get we all have busy lives but people that are difficult to work with are a PITA. 5. People who flip products on the same platform where they acquired the product. Saw this one last year when somebody bought a GB 32 trawler for less than 5K and then turned around and relisted it a couple of weeks later for $25K using the photos taken by the person they bought it from and posting it on the exact same platform. Hey I'm an antiques picker so I fully applaud people reselling for a profit when they can but don't sh*t where you eat and don't make it so obvious you are just trying to make a quick buck without any effort on your part. 6. Don't bite off more than you can chew. If you don't know how to do fiberglass repair don't buy something that needs a transom replacement. If you don't know anything about motors don't buy a boat with a dead one. You'd be better off to buy a more expensive boat that doesn't need the repair than to buy a cheap one and pay somebody else to do the work. 7. Don't buy something without a place to store it or a way to transport it. Self explanatory right? Right? Make your calls to marinas or self storage lots before you buy something, check your HOA rules before you decide to drag something back to your driveway. 8. Educate yourself before you look. Bring somebody who knows something about something if you don't. Learning about this stuff before you buy is cheaper than learning about it after. 9. Patience is a virtue. Worst buying decisions I've ever made have been when I felt pressured to get something ASAP. Sometimes that can't be helped but it's best to avoid if possible.

Glad you're back! You were the first sailing channel I followed. I live in your area so I recognized all the places in your videos. Learned to sail in the prams stored in the little blue bldg in front of your slip. Two years ago your channel inspired me to by an O'day 23 that I've been sailing in the Gulf and bays from Anclote Lighthouse to St. John's Pass. But I decided I needed a bigger boat, so I bought a Hunter 33 (2006) and just yesterday I sold my O'day. Really looking forward to your next adventure. @@AdventuresInParadise she’s right though… if you two are looking to sail out on longer trips you need a different type of sailboat. Not even necessarily bigger, just a different design. A Cape Dory 28, for example has taken Sam Holmes (and more than a few others!) across oceans. In any event, I was really happy to get an update from you two. I live near Atlanta and have flown a Cessna 172 over Stone Mountain many times as a student pilot getting my private license.

@@southernpaths2986 99% of all the sailing we did was within 10 miles of where we started, so there definitely won't be anything larger or designed for longer trips.
