Those last 5 seconds tells me so much. He's taking it in that one of his favourite singers thinks his song is good enough, that his work is worthy enough to sing and record. I think I'd do the same when Brian would sing one of my songs.

Brian mentioned that he and the rest of the group would often have prayer groups together before, during and after recording sessions. That is why, IMHO, they had so many heavenly, spiritual songs, like In My Room, The Warmth of the Sun, etc.

Mike Love is very egotistical and might not be the most pleasant at all times but I love him and his contributions to music. His lead vocals are kickass and we all know it!

First heard Message around July 4th, NYC 1982 on WHBI FM where he started. I’m guessing this was first played on BLS sometime in July of that year.

He’s just hurting, under Landy’s spell, thinking that Carl doesn’t want to see him. He says he feels rotten 😢

Brian Wilson is a class act. The man completely invented an entire new way of recording music and he perfected harmonizing in rock music.

I think it's a great song - love little vignette and interesting chord changes. It came out when punk happened so cancelled out. I played MIU to several 'punks' at the time and they actually thought quite good - whilst the critics lambasted it automatically!!

The context is missing here. During this period Brian hadn't spoken to Carl in ages due to being isolated by Landy. It was likely that Carl was feeling hurt by this at the time.
