Funny thing about the economy supposedly being so bad right now. It’s better than it was 4 years ago. But there was a pandemic. I hear you. So let’s talk pre-pandemic. Unemployment is at the same ultra low rate it was under Obama and Trump pre-pandemic. The rate of layoffs is 20% lower than its pre pandemic best. The amount of better jobs offering upward mobility is 20% higher than it was in 2019 pre pandemic. America is pumping more oil than it ever has and gas prices are at the level they were before the pandemic crash when no one was driving. If it wasn’t for opec price fixing it would be even lower. The stock market is cranking, with the Dow crossing 40k for THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY. So regardless of political preference, people need to wake up and smell the roses for 5 mins. America is back. Just like it came back strong after the Bush recession when the dreaded Obama brought unemployment down to 3.6% and tripled the stock market.

This is the first sig I've ever owned. Wow the sig community is full of cry babies. I'm happy with the rifle. I disassemble all my firearms before I shoot and check torque on all components clean and shoot. Should be common practice and avoids alot of winning when things don't work the way they should.
@scorpiustactical4 ай бұрын
Considering this was a year ago and we sent a solid 5 in for warranty with updates to the torque spec from SIG, I would say this was a valid concern. Now respect to you for breaking down the weapon prior to use. We have a lot of buyers who simply don't. With that said the torque spec was increased on all of the rifles that returned. Calling what we did whining? Cry babies? That is what is wrong with this community. Be better and use opportunities to help people with knowledge.

Torque the barrel clamping bolts to the correct value. We have had several come through here and have no issues after re-torquing the bolts.

Does this exist only in the LT version?
@scorpiustactical8 ай бұрын
Correct. The Virtus is not affected.
@noahbthesavagegardener51468 ай бұрын
Another suggestion for those experiencing this problem... increase the torque on your screws in 5 in-lb increments or so until you reach the torque spec. Overtightening one screw while the opposing screw remains loose could cause that opposing screw not to engage the threads properly. In that scenario, it's possible to install fasteners to the specified torque without the fasteners engaging symetrically and yielding the desired uniform mechanical contact. Also, any time a torque spec is involved, it's critical to consider whether the fastener needs to be dry, coated with oil/anti-seize compound, loctite, etc. Because the applied coating will make a big difference in how far the fastener engages at a given torque. Unfortunately it's not all that common for manufacturers to specify this.
@noahbthesavagegardener51468 ай бұрын
Thank you for putting together this excellent test and demonstration. This is by far the best information I've been able to find on this subject, even 7 months later. Questions still persist about how likely this problem is to be fixed by torqueing the screws to specs and I haven't been able to find an official public response from Sig, which is somewhat disappointing. As a result, instead of an MCX Spear LT upper I'm now leaning toward alternative AR-18 type designs including the CMMG Dissent and the BRN-180.
@pattyhughes74778 ай бұрын
Wow, you all need to get over it. You do realize all barrels move, right?
@scorpiustactical8 ай бұрын
But they don't stick in place. Go check out @trexarms video finding the same thing. It's an issue and needs to be resolved. As a business having customers return purchases because they cannot keep their zero is an issue. Nothing the users need to " get over". This is on the manufacturer.
@ReptilianLepton9 ай бұрын
Does this only happen in the LT models or has it been found to happen in the 7.62x51 & .277 Fury ones too? Either way, this _really_ doesn't inspire confidence in the XM7/Spear MCX in general, as a platform.

Pretty wild to see on a rifle that is already essentially gen 3. Also hilarious to see the people saying it's the handguard, as if that could change the position of the flash hider.
@Schrockodile11 ай бұрын
Tighten the barrel clamps to 60 in lbs and the hand guard screws to 45 in lbs. DO BOTH. Shocking how making sure something is done to spec gives the desired result. Complaining about this is about the same as complaining that an electronic doesn’t work properly if it was shipped without a battery.

We were short on time and our customers allowed us to use their firearms as the test. We know what you are seeing but the laser on the receiver and the bore sight shows the deviation. The handguard flexes but the barrel clearly does as well.
@madstoppie10 ай бұрын
@scorpiustactical If you couldn't do the test without the handguard and show everyone how the barrel moved in the receiver socket, you were (and are) spreading half truths. The handguard can move that way if it's loose, the barrel however, could never move as much as you show in the video and stay in that position unless the receiver socket was opened by force and probably permanently damaged. All these videos "showing" this problem have one thing in common, the hand guards never come off to show the actual claim of a barrel sway. It even hurts my brain to say "barrel sway", it is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If I were you, I'd get that rifle back, I'd take the handguard off and show the barrel at the receiver and all its "sway". Otherwise, I feel this video is just....not credible
