I got a severe telling off from a local when I called them the Scilly Isles. They are the Isles Of Scilly.

Man, I can remember going on that same hovercraft from Ryde to Southsea on my own for a day of skateboarding at Southsea Skatepark back in 1988, then it was back home to Grans house in Ryde for tea. I was 14 at the time and I never forgot how magical the journey was, skipping across the Solent on a carpet of air. Great to see the service is still in use. Happy days....

My Grandmother lives in Southsea, Portsmouth & a few years ago when I was staying with her I treated myself to a ride on the hovercraft to Ryde, Isle of Wight, my Grandmother had planned something else with my Aunt at the time or she would have come with me. It was a fantastic experience & I fully recommend it to anybody planning a trip from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight without the bother of a car.

Hovercrafts need a redesign. They're loud and look more like industrial equipment. They should be more powerful and luxurious, like a yacht.

I haven't lived on the Island for years but whenever I visit I always love to see the Hovercraft setting off at Ryde. Remember the old orange SRN6 of the 1960's

The tide is a big problem - the Hovercraft can fly over the sand at low tide.....
@mercifulzeus015 жыл бұрын
Because at Ryde, the sea is almost a mile from the shore in some parts at low tide. That's why the pier has to be 665 metres long, whereas a hovercraft can run right up to the edge of the promenade, cutting out a sizeable chunk of the shore-to-shore journey time.
