I love Steve Harris but he did talk some bollocks after Adrian left. For me, Adrian’s solos were the most carefully crafted and melodic in the band and while I think Dave is technically as good, Janick isn’t anywhere near. Just my opinion.

Adrian didn’t want to go backwards … hence why he left … this album was “ok” and I’m one of the biggest Maiden fans alive. The stripping down things really didn’t work out well …. But where they missed Adrian the most is in his lyrics and song writing.

Great album but I don’t need my albums to sound “live”.

This interview always bothered me, where they're discussing Jannick vs. Adrian. I appreciate that Jannick was the new guitarist and they need to move on from Adrian, but Steve's comment that Jannick was more of a "natural lead player" hasn't aged well for me. While I hear Jannick's leads as somewhat on-the-edge and scrappy, Adrian's leads are all virtually perfect - memorable and singable. The perfect complement to Dave's on-the-edge bluesy rips.

awesome! should be live on location 1990 though; they did a few shows in japan in early 1991 to fulfill their obligation but it was ultimately the end

That transition at 1:33 with Martin saying “Janick’s more off an aggressive player” and then they pop up that silly video of him playing a toy guitar in a pool made me chuckle hard. So glad they added Jan, seriously. He brings so much to the table and established himself as a masterpiece composer in the band. Love this era

Jan is a GREAT songwriter and a good guitarrist on studio albums, my """problems""" with him are: 1 - his guitar tone which I absolutely hate (Adrian, on the other hand, has THE BEST guitar tone in heavy metal!); 2 - he's INCREDIBLY sloppy live...in spite of his attempts to counteract this sloppiness with his awesome stage presence, which I love, I hate when he butchers Adrian's former solos...all in all, still a great addition to Maiden...I think the three guitars line-up works incredibly well

Very underrated album. I really like the raw sound and even the No. 1 hit single was fun. It was so different from 7th Son which is why it got so much hate. It's a solid album but maybe only for connoisseurs.
