Jon Faddis fingerings are so clean, his fingers seem so calm as he's playing the most ridiculous lines.. Crazy combo to have them all on one stage together, mindblown.

Arturo was my least favorite. Wynton was in my opinion the most musical. He played like a poet with nice phrasing. Arturo was playing licks and showing his excellent technique. That’s fine but it doesn’t last. It gets boring because it hard to follow some kind of a musical narrative with connecting ideas. Arturo, when he figures this out will be an excellent commentator of real music.

Wyton being from a pure jazz background (Louisiana jazz) and blues background, understands range isn't going to make the blues nor are tones of chromatics. Personally I never been fond of people who slap tones of chromatics in their play, it can be overbearing. Blues in particularly is about the the feeling and rhythm, you are supposed to be about move your body to it whereas tossing out a ton of chromatics can through off the flow of the body, triplets can work but chromatics can be too much. Blues is supposed to pull you, not throw it's self at you, which Wynton reframed from doing because of that. Jazz in it's purest from is similar to blues in that regard but it it's upbeat due to its roots in ragtime. The reason it's called jazz is because it was originally jazzasm which derives from orgasm and it was called jazzasm because it was music that forced your to get you knees shaken and body moving hence it being considered the devil's as blues once was but I digress. Jazz is about experiencing all emotions which chromatics can be expressive of whereas blues experience all emotions in a specific way that is rooted in the feelings longing for something. Everyone else went at this as jazz while wynton as blues.

One of the best big bands ever! So "jazzy" just for a short period. After that time the band went to a very commercial, popular and successful dance band! But also with a lot of great musicians.
