Last time I'm going to tell you, the system requires two spinning mirror arrays. The one that you currently have along with a faceted cylinder for the other axi. Use grayscale resolvers to determine location. This will give you granular control of each individual pixel. What you're doing isn't new by any means. It has been done in many laser labs around the world. You also might want to look at using a Liquid Crystal Optical beam shutter

How do you do the green line animation in 6:28?
@benmakeseverything4 күн бұрын
The rotating chip? In fusion 360, you can do simple animations and export as a video file. I set the render style to a line art with no shading, (black lines on a white background). Then I took that and inverted the colors in the video editing software (DaVinci), and then put a green overlay on top of it and set the blending mode to 'multiply'.

would the arduino pro micro and and switches + sensor be sufficient ? is it necessary to have an xtra pcb?

These lasers already exsit in photocopiers. The parts often get thrown away instead of repurposed. You can probably get one cheaper that what you paid to make that one.
@benmakeseverything6 күн бұрын
The spinning mirror, yes (and thats what the one I used came from), the galvo that's used for the Y axis - No. And the laser used in a copier is an invisble IR diode, unlike what I used.

@ oh I know. I use to repair them. I was a copier tech for several companies after I retired from the USAF

So how big of a build area did you get out of it all, and what did it all cost you?
@aladdinlightsibiza49517 күн бұрын
THIS IS AMAZING! WELL DONE! who do i speak to to get one built for me!!! ( seriously :-)
@benmakeseverything6 күн бұрын
Thanks! Unfortunately its not really cost effective to produce, and there are still a lot of loose ends and poorly optimized things due to this being a prototype. I may revisit this in the future and try to create a smaller, cheaper and overall better version.

i keep thinking about how to use kaleidoscopes with this... intelligent mirrorplacement could recude the total amount of mirrors by emitting lightpulses projectect on the respective raytraced mirror...
@Sci-Fist8 күн бұрын
moving mirrors would make it so that more mirrors could be in one line being pushed in place and taken away as needed to produce beam variations based on the pulse of the laser/s

Hopefully someone sees this: How did he do the cross section part? I'm a complete beginner to fusion so sorry if obvious.
@benmakeseverything8 күн бұрын
At the top of the screen in Fusion, click on the ruler icon that says "inspect". Then click "Section Analysis". then click on the plane or object face you want to slice through. You can slide back and forth to see different parts. Hope that helps!

You did not mention how you got the tool paths for these projects and must have missed what controller software you used. I built a 3,+4,+5 axis cnc by converting a mini mill using pokeys boards and mach 4 software. I do not know fusion 360 so i've only been able to do limited things. My motors are nema24 for the 3 axis and whatever came for the rotation tables. I had to calibrate the stepper motors for all 5 axis. Aside from this ive been busy with 3D printing both fdm and resin printers. I do not have shielding on my wires but also did not have crash issues. Using tormach tool changers and habe to do those manually. Beauty of my setup is i can move the controller box to other setups like lathe router, fiber laser etc... the computer can connect via ethernet so i can control remotely.
@benmakeseverything12 күн бұрын
Hi, sounds like you have an impressive setup! Regarding the toolpaths, they were all generated in Fusion360 via the built in CAM package - basically I imported .obj format 3D models and used a 2-step machining process (roughing with a 1/4" bit then a detail pass using a 1mm bit).
