No logic with this crap just money grab. Sell your used car and buy another car will likely have the same issues but already registered in Alberta. Save all your money

Ugh I have to take my old WRX sti in... it's in great shape except for a little leak on the Powersteering... fingers crossedI pass this provincial cash grab... I don't understand why I need to prove my car is worthy to drive on the roads when it was registered in the same country and is in better shape than half the rolling scrap piles I see bombing down the #2...

Hey, ya I hear you and it is definitely frustrating seeing some of the vehicles on the road. The biggest reason for the strict out of province inspection regulations is to curb the underworld of stolen, flooded, unroadworthy repaired (two made into one) vehicles from entering the province. In 2005 Alberta was the top dumping ground for flooded, and stolen vehicles. It may have had to do with the incredibly relaxed "bill of sale" used to register--you can literally write a bill of sale on a napkin here... Other provinces with tighter registration systems and the need to have the "title" of the vehicle to register weeds out most of this underworld. Alberta created the inspection program instead to make it difficult for the underworld to continue to dump vehicles here. As a result, the ones who take care of their vehicles have to go through the same process.

Hey, i have an old bmw that had a couple of the modules replaced from part out cars, everything functions as normal but they need to be coded to the vin so they throw some errors. Will it pass?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Ай бұрын
A pass or fail will depend entirely on the faults stored in the modules. When performing the inspection we perform a complete scan of all modules; anything related to engine operation reliability, or anything related to safety will need to be addressed.

Can we pass vehicle inspection without mufflers?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive 6 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the comment, and welcome to Alberta! Unfortunately, the mufflers will need to be installed on the vehicle, they are not required to be OEM, however, they are required to be OEM equivalent. Specifically for the exhaust system; See section -- 11.8, on page 55 of the inspection guide below: open.alberta.ca/dataset/4878a85b-0d94-46dc-9b88-363c0fafa0c9/resource/410d7461-dd09-4e0a-b17e-901bd7e71372/download/amltmanualdec2009.pdf

I'd suggest taking a good look at the inspection guidelines linked below. The guide will give you a solid base to sort out what the vehicle needs in order to pass inspection. If something in the guide isn't making sense or if you bump into specific areas you're unsure about, I can help answer those questions. open.alberta.ca/dataset/4878a85b-0d94-46dc-9b88-363c0fafa0c9/resource/410d7461-dd09-4e0a-b17e-901bd7e71372/download/amltmanualdec2009.pdf

I got a new Camry 2023 and has tinted windows … came from ontario to Alberta … will there be any issues ?!
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Congrats on the car! If the front side windows have any film on them, tint or otherwise; The film will have to be removed in order to pass the out of province inspection. The rear side windows and rear window are permitted to have tint on them. The front windshield is permitted to have -- no more than a 6" band across the top edge if the window. More details about the inspection guidelines for windows and glass can be found below in section (4.2) which is page 44 of the pdf document. open.alberta.ca/dataset/4878a85b-0d94-46dc-9b88-363c0fafa0c9/resource/410d7461-dd09-4e0a-b17e-901bd7e71372/download/amltmanualdec2009.pdf I hope this helps!

I am eyeing to buy a car from a Honda dealer outlet in BC and I live in Edmonton. How do i get it registered in Alberta? thanks
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the message. Here is what I believe to be true, however, I would recommend confirming with a local registry office. Once you purchase the vehicle you can obtain insurance, then you are able to purchase an "in-Transit" permit from an Alberta registry agent. This will allow you 7 days to drive the vehicle from its location in BC to Edmonton. Once you have it here you will be required to have the Out of Province Inspection completed. Once you have the Out of Province Certificate, the vehicle will be eligible for Alberta registration. I hope this helps, and good luck with the purchase!

If I fix rust does the paint job need to look good to pass?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Hey, great question. The most important thing is how the rust was repaired; follow industry standards and you should be fine. The finish does not really matter, it is the safety of the vehicle that is being assessed. Below is what is mentioned in section 6 of the technician inspection guide; "6.2c, Rust perforation affecting the structural integrity of the vehicle or perforations allowing exhaust gasses into the passenger compartment exists". You can take a look at the manual in the following link, go to section 6: open.alberta.ca/dataset/4878a85b-0d94-46dc-9b88-363c0fafa0c9/resource/410d7461-dd09-4e0a-b17e-901bd7e71372/download/amltmanualdec2009.pdf

Also, we find old floor pan cut out and new metal fixed with self tapping screws. Will something like that ever pass?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Another great question, as mentioned in my other response, section (11.6), indicates that the floor pan repair must be performed using industry standards, so the self tapping screws will not work in this instance. I would recommend reaching out to an auto body shop, they can advise on the proper repair procedure. We recommend Royal Autobody here in west Edmonton.

Hey! If there are any perforations through the floor pan due to rust or damage; this will result in a fail for the out of province inspection. You will find further details in section, (11.6)-"floor pans", of the out of province inspection guide here: open.alberta.ca/dataset/4878a85b-0d94-46dc-9b88-363c0fafa0c9/resource/410d7461-dd09-4e0a-b17e-901bd7e71372/download/amltmanualdec2009.pdf

Hey, welcome to Alberta! In short, it is possible that an aftermarket exhaust system will fail the out of province inspection. Below is a link to the inspection manual that our technicians are required to follow here in Alberta, (See section 11.8, on page 56); open.alberta.ca/dataset/4878a85b-0d94-46dc-9b88-363c0fafa0c9/resource/410d7461-dd09-4e0a-b17e-901bd7e71372/download/amltmanualdec2009.pdf I hope this helps!

@@CaliberAutomotive this is ridiculous😂, how you guys define whether the oil leak is fire hazard or not? Will minor oil sweep (1 drop every 1-2month) around lower oil pan fail the test?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Жыл бұрын
@@garyzhang5099 Great question! In our opinion, an oil leak that drips onto the exhaust system, or onto any of the high current electrics (starter, alternator, etc) will require repair in order to pass the inspection. Based on your description, it sounds like the leak is fairly minor; if that is the case and it is not dripping onto the exhaust system or any high current electrics it should be ok. However, we would have to take a look at the leak to say for sure. feel free to reach out through our website, www.caliberautmotive.com.

Do you have any thoughts one way or the other about installing a S-VCM controller to prevent cylinders from shutting down?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie, We do not do the S-VCM "bypass" here, however, what I know about them is they "fool the engine computer" with varying resistors, etc. The resistors change the input value of the engines operating temperature; The result is the computer will not engage the S-VCM system. While fooling the ECM there is a risk that other aspects of the engine management will be impacted negatively (fuel management, engine cooling system, evaporative emissions system, etc.)

How much does it cost to fix?
@CaliberAutomotive
@CaliberAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for asking! The repair for this condition is a fairly big job and the cost can be affected by the state of components as the technician gets into the inner workings of the engine. However, the average we have found while doing the repairs here at caliber automotive, is around $4500.00. If you are considering the repair and have questions about the process, feel free to reach out.
