Any idea where I can get that white lever that hooks to acuator???

taking my intake off very soon and i'm taking those swirl flaps out.. Read from alot of people on forums the risk doesnt outway the benefits of those swirl flaps. People have had those break and go straight into the intake valves causing catastrophic failures.. Just realized you said this.. But Just clarifying that I am just going to completely remove them.

I have the dreaded po171 code. Hoses look good so i swaped in a new MAS sensor and seemed to do the trick then the idle got rough but runs good at higher rpms and now po272 is back. took intake off to do PVC valve and my flaps looked good but there is oil around them and in takes. Any ideas would be nice. thanks for posting.
@collineastman80762 жыл бұрын
Hello, is the "rough idle" you are describing sort of a surging sound and it almost seems like the engine is trying to idle normally but keeps getting bogged down in waves? If so, the pcv valve could be clogged with sludge/oil which would stop the crankcase from expelling the crankcase vapor into the manifold. Although p0171 can be caused by several factors, it is worth removing the pcv valve and making sure it is not clogged(it is a simple/cheap 1 way valve that should rattle when you shake it)

Can a p0171 be caused also by the swirl flaps? I had a broken pcv hose, and i fixed it and the code went away for a while. While i changed that pcv hose, i noticed that the swirl flaps are quite worn so that's why im wondering whether those could cause that code as well... because if they rattle inside they might let too much air inside and it messes with fuel trims, and after a while after I clear the code, it apppears (1 week..)

@@bluesummersky6936 I basically changed the top 02 sensor, but it was a air/fuel wide band sensor, not a generic 02 sensor, it still does come up every couple thousand miles but I think that's because it's got no swirl flaps

I have p2004 code i tested my actuator it works perfect and i dont see any resistance . My mechanic recommended seafoam. I did that the code went away for a week. It went off before on its own without seafoam. Code came back yesterday. Im guessing the switch is cruded over. Anyway to clean it? Or do I need to run seafoam again?
@collineastman80764 жыл бұрын
In my opinion seafoam does not change anything on our duratec 2.0l engine because the port injection cleans the valves. The manifold gets gummed up by oil from the PCV valve but seafoam won't clean that because it accumulates at the bottom of the manifold. The problem is likely the worn flaps that are getting jammed intermittently.

I’ve been thinking about getting one of these. I did the leg work to find the parts supplier. I’m not sure though. The immediate roads around my house are terrible and 30 mph is barely possible so this bike would be fine for that, but a big part of one of my regular commutes is 65 mph and I’m just not sure how it will handle it. Idk. If it does 55 well and isn’t straining it too bad then I could learn to love this bike.

You can use epoxy to fix that shit. If you can't find a used one...
@collineastman80765 жыл бұрын
That would require some serious precision but i guess it's feasible if the epoxy doesn't restrict the rotation of the flaps. Some people just remove them and plug the hole so theres no vacuum leaks. Although the flaps are there for improved efficiency at low rpms.
@MasterChief-sl9ro5 жыл бұрын
Just use brass bushing. Epoxy them in. As the issue is the rod bearing wearing out. Then falls into your engine. You can also reverse the rod. Then buy new flappers and rebuild it for way less. Then a new intake.
@paulpatt54816 жыл бұрын
Very poor design. It is a ridiculously difficult task to remove and reinstall the intake manifold IM on such a simple engine. I removed the flaps and replaced the PCV hose as well. See Craig's DIY very helpful video for the intake manifold removal - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHPbnmiHn6ljhrs

I did mine on my 2.0 its a 2005 Ghia x with 145,000 miles. When I inspected them they were OK but I changed then for new ones nevertheless. A set of 4 cost me £64 and the 4 gaskets and o ring were another £24. I did toy with the idea of removing them altogether and filling the holes with Araldite and then once dry sanding them over but for continuity's sake I bought new ones. Duratec is a good engine and mine averages 35.3mpg. If I want more economy I'll go the LPG route rather than buy a diesel version of the mk3. The mk4 diesels are more refined but use a cambelt rather than camchain.

The bike only gets up to around 70mph in this video because its on flat ground. As for the bike, i currently have 3000 miles on mine and no major issues yet. I will be making a review/maintenance video soon that explains what you should do to make this bike reliable. If you'd like, subscribe so you dont miss it!

Does the front-end supposed to shake violently or am I missing something? Note: I'm still a rookie with the manual trans but I think maybe I need to readjust all the parts. Another thing, where do you get parts for it and what engine oil type does it take? for when it's time to give it an oil change.
@collineastman80766 жыл бұрын
The bike should not be shaking or pulsating anywhere except for the mirrors or windscreen tips. The manufacturer has a chart in the owners manual of oil viscosity varying by temperature. 10W-40 or 15W-40 are the recommended oil types. Make sure to use motorcycle oil only as the transmission and clutch are submerged in the oil. Also, if the bike was shipped then change the oil before riding. Change oil frequently during the break in cycle as well.

Where is this pull a part at? I'm in California, car sounds a little like a diesel, thought it was a valve then I got the P2004 code. thanks
@collineastman80767 жыл бұрын
pull a part is just a large chain of scrapyards in the east of the U.S. any scrapyard with cars(specifically the focus with the duratec 2.0) will have the part your looking for. the ford escape and mazda 3 also use the duratec 2.0 engine and will have the same intake manifold too. just make sure EVERYTHING on the used manifold is in working order.
@andrewmoreno28777 жыл бұрын
will that cause the engine sound like a diesel?
@collineastman80767 жыл бұрын
Yes in a way it sounds like the clicking of diesel injectors. This is a very common problem with the Duratec 2.0 engines and it is often mistaken for injector chatter. Although injectors do make a small clicking noise, if the noise is louder than it has been previously, it is likely the manifold's flaps deteriorating.
@collineastman80767 жыл бұрын
Also there is a easy test that may provide information on your issue. First look at the manifold when it is on the engine and locate the throttle body(There is a rubber tube/boot leading up to the throttle body). Look from above at the throttle body and locate the ONLY white piece of plastic next to it(it is small and has a rounded black arm connected to it which is the actuator i show in the video). While the engine is running, push that white piece down and listen for any change in the clicking noise. If the noise changes or goes away it is definitely the flaps.
