Aside from a brief brush with Quakers earlier in life, I am new to Christianity. Started attending a local Baptist church about six months ago. Never been baptized, to my knowledge, but would be in bad faith to do so there....I need to leave. Am an avid reader, and everything lately, has been Eastern Orthodox, or Catholic. The topic of Mary in this local Baptist congregation, is taboo, and I have remained silent in the bible study sessions, even when mis-information has been promoted. One of the first things I (secretly) got was a rosary, and it gets prayed most days. I also brought out the statue of Mary that had belonged to my husband's Catholic parents. She has pride of place on our mantle, and a vintage wooden crucifix hangs above her, on the wall. Loved your comment, "the compassion of a gnat." That was me. Life got so much better once I started attending church, and realized my own role in the train wreck of my life.

If you wish me to I can remove this and make it private again. I am excited to see you are doing your research. I encourage you to find a catecumen class by the time they begin in September. Orthodoxy taught me the history of Christianity after being a Christian my whole life. And I am still learning! God bless!

Yes. and many are beginning to say the NT does not apply to them either. If you don't read the OT and doubt the validity of the NT, what is left? Sad to see people losing their way due to bad leadership. I am so thankful for the Orthodox Church.

i think the best short answer is No, we are to be different than the world, not living as we were of it, the world seeks power through witches, witches try to "control their "source/deity"", As a Christian, we dont control God, He can use us if we are willing to be lead by Him, He is the leader, not us, witches try to do the opposite

Ok, smoking and drinking aren't necessarily sins. I just used them as examples of how not to abuse your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, once you're baptized.

Cargo cult prosperity... too true! I've always liked Proverbs 31, but I never felt like the woman needed to be doing all of it at once. Seemed like a rare bit of sunshine in an otherwise bleak and brutal OT - at least the first five books (which I'm most familiar with) read that way to me. Textile history is fascinating. I enjoy your channel. Thanks!

Three years ago, I had hip-length hair. Between menopause and Covid, most of it either fell out, or broke off. I ended up chopping it at the jaw-line, and it has been growing back slowly. As for covering, wide stretchy head band/buff is the easiest and quickest way for me to look pulled together, and keeps my hair out of the cooking. I almost always wear one, if only for practical reasons. The topic has fascinated me for over a decade, but I don't really know why. I like the "plain" dress of many Quaker women with a kerchief on the head, but most of my life I was either staunchly atheist (as a younger person), or something of a pagan animist. Followers of the Greek hearth goddess, Hestia will don a head covering, and a linen kerchief is typical in Viking dress (what we think we know of it, anyway). Basic 18th century peasant dress (a practical style I like a lot, and have sewn/worn examples of) employs a head covering. It is a venerable tradition. I currently attend a local Baptist church. Am the only one there who covers (although I think one older lady who sports a lace bun cover might be trying to achieve something similar). The "Reformed" situation IS odd to me - 2,000+ years of history, and a rather direct command through Paul, yet people STILL insist on twisting it, esp. very prominent successful pastors who ABSOLUTELY know the distinctions expressed in the the original Greek, that perfectly clarify the text's intended meaning. It was startling to me when I realized (that even as a newbie) I had read the passages and good scholarly commentary carefully enough to know for sure that particular famous elderly pastor with a laudable reputation and a big KZbin channel was LYING. I don't talk about head covering to anyone, I just wear it.

Hey, what's important is that you gave it a go and now can move forward knowing what's right for you! You had the guts to give it the go! P.S. I keep fruit trees and a relatively substantial garden. I have for a couple years now. I definitely do not think that I cover the costs of it. I do it, anyway, because I enjoy the work itself...but, as of right now, it costs me more to grow my own food than in does to shop.

I have great respect for the covering of the head. Even us men in folk traditions know to cover our heads when we are out and about. Our hats are often used in our Powwowing healing work. Very good discussion!
