Further to the battery recycling discussion, I see it being worthwhile and viable in a market where NMC batteries make up the lion's share of the market generating the feedstock - as a number of valuable metals can be extracted. Considering the rise of the LFP battery, first in China but now taking share in Western markets with its improving performance, the proportion of "valuable" metals able to be extracted from the feedstock would be far lower with a lot of Iron in the mix. I see the viability of the recycling of batteries being reduced significantly with the increasing presence of LFP batteries.....as the returns just may not be there to make investing in recycling attractive. Obviously, the returns are governed by the commodity prices of the various metals concerned - but I wonder what the Lithium price would need to be to make LFP recycling viable?
