he gave up on them in season 2 so many times before his first I love you, then at the end of season 4 I suppose. even in season 1, after the GG blast about Blair's pregnancy scare (even though that was expected, she was a bitch to him then). And in season 3, she actually forgave him for everything he's done with Jack and the hotel and showed up to the ESB, while he left immediately and drowned his sorrows with one of Blair's sworn enemies. she did give up on them too, though, but not as much.

I think it mainly refers to the last episode of season 4 when Blair said she wanted to cancel the engagement with Louis to be with Chuck. However, Chuck said that they should let the relationship go and she should go along with the marriage (he gave up on them).

They’re meant to be toxic

In a way, he was. This is why Blair gets so freaked out afterwards. I think a part of her thought Chuck would self sabotage, try to ruin her relationship with Louie like he did with Marcus, and this would validate her reasons for moving on. Remember Blair ended things in S4 because she didn’t think Chuck would ever be ready for a real relationship, and didn’t want to wait around. Chuck apologizing rocks her to her core, and for the next few episodes, she’s teetering on leaving Louie. She finally does, but her car crashes, etc.

What about it makes you think that he is not genuine? He is not trying to get her back, he is letting her know she does not have to worry about him anymore and can move on. And the abuse was mutual (and she never apologised, which is troubling).

@@arklul124 OK. He literally sold/traded her for a hotel to his equally shitty uncle. He smashed a glass window out of anger over her head. He cheated on her with Jenny Humphrey also tried to rape Jenny (when she was underage still at that) and tried forcing himself on Serena a few times. He’s a sick person I’m hoping that you never have to be in an abusive relationship or see one firsthand.. Maybe you’ll change your perspective if you do. I don’t wish it on anyone even my worst enemies it ruins you completely

@@katykins2010 Yes, he made the hotel deal, and smashed the window. She sold him for a toast (that was not even really important) and ruined his new relationship out of spite. Sleeping with Jenny was not cheating, they were not together. Jenny being underage when Chuck attacked her is irrelevant, he was underage too. Also a) that happened in the pilot, before any character development, when he was a kid (and had a personality rewrite) and b) how is Blair that is notorious bully any better than him (her bulling was of different nature, but it was still equally ruthless). Not to mention that none of this has anything to do with their mutually done harm - if they were to be judged for what they did to other people, they would both end up in hell. As for my first hand experience: this is fiction, this is why I am able to enjoy this characters. If this was real life, I would avoid both of them in equal measures. This is a moment, when one of these fictional characters acknowledges some of his wrong doings, which is the whole point of storytelling - make mistakes, acknowledge them, learn your lessons. That is called character development. I wish Blair had a scene like that, not even apologizing, just sitting alone in her room and doing some acknowledging of lines she crossed - up until this conversation, and after this - not just with Chuck, but also with other people she claimed she cared about, but treated really badly especially this season.

​@@katykins2010 We do not have to argue, and FYI I am an atheist and like even murderous characters which does not mean I excuse murder (and thank you for the insult, by the way, you are very cordial) And my appreciation of characters in general depends on the progress they make. I am sorry for you if you are uncapable of following a characters path If they do something you disapprove of. I don't understand why you even watch this show? All of the main cast crossed some serious lines, even Nate is not a saint, he just looks nice by contrast.
