Over 8% interest is rough. I was trying to figure out if it’s worth paying capital gains and the opportunity cost of not having that money invested in the market versus taking out a loan for it. I guess at that interest rate it probably makes sense to just pay cash like you said. I should probably go in with two or three other guys though.

Get 2 other people. Aopa is a big help. You can talk to them about doing a club or a partnership. What I found is you can front the cash and come out owning a part of the plane for a lot less. If I sold 25 % shares for 33% price to own a quarter for fronting the cash and putting in the leg work for hangar, Llc, taxes etc…

Not at the level to buy for training. I rent plane I’m training on now. For me I’m not sure buying outright is for me. I may do a partnership program. Good information.

Buying in to a 3 or 4 way split is the way to go. Even a 5 way split works. There are. Lot of guys that have 10 to 20k and could buy in. If you are flying 50 hours a year renting is a good place. For training to go to the airlines and being out 150k vs just buying a plane the 150k in a plane plus gas is better because you can sell the plane at the end and like a fly with Trent short cut getting a job by 18-36 months. There is a video on the channel that breaks down the 4 year school and CFI va the just buy a plane route that shouts about 2-3 million in difference for life time earnings by getting to a paying job quicker.

All that stuff is important to look through the registry for. I probably need to make a video of moving from my quick stiff test to find 3-5 to look at closer. Which means going through the logs and that part is not fun as anyone that has done it knows reading 4o year old hand writing #####s

www.flightaware.com search the n number on Flightaware it will show history of flights and registration. The registration link is a little hidden on one of the pages but it’s there.

Please read the registration carefully! There are multiple entries for the same owner who moved the location of the airplane.

I saw that after I posted it. There is about 10 years on the cheaper plane that the same person had the plane then moved airports. Thus they had to update with the faa. My analysis of both planes would not change. One has only flown 50 hours a year. The logbook would bear out if the plane is set for a number of years. On the more expensive plane that only has 50 hours a year it looks like there’s a new engine so the only concern there would be if plane has been a couple years outside. It probably hasn’t and that’s why I would lean toward buying it and having a completed project and buying the cheaper plane and end up at almost the same money, but cost me at least eight months of my time

Nice job! That’s some unique and informative content. You basically “proved” a better value of a 170k 172 vs. a 50k 172. Believe me, you just blew the minds of 95% of those folks shopping for airplanes. And you did it convincingly. At the end , you found a 20k delta, but a 10 year newer airframe with 4000 ! fewer hours. I’ll bet the P&I are far superior too. Now you’re doing a service for shoppers. Congrats.

I’ve been thinking about doing the c172 and bonanza of the month with a 2 week gap on release and going to look at them in the plane as there is a ton of planes for sale in Texas where I travel for work.

your 'struggles' with getting your pilot chops back are very interesting, but it's really your now true expertise in purchase and sale and valuing airplanes where you can have the most impact on youtube and increase your audience. I don't have to tell you that 90% of folks are 'looking for a bargain' and they see a plane and a price and everything else is mystery to them. WE know that's only the first step to ownership -- besides costs there is time and STRESS and imperfect installations and enforcing warranties - etc etc. all besides maybe a 60 yo plane that's been held together with duct tape and chicken wire and always needy. Anyway, I think that's where you should concentrate your videos. You have a compelling personality. good luck N8505M 1963P35 N31PA 1967SuperIII

Very kind words. I would like to do more around the buying process and looking at the project. I'm in sales and would like to quit cyber security sales as I move 55 years of age to early 60's and go to work at Beechcraft or Cirrus reseller. If you look back my most viewed for hours video is my video where I talk through my 6 airplane deals.
@4420dano23 күн бұрын
@@therustypilot3452 I saw it - you *could* have made a short video on each and done a deeper dive -- times, engines, avionics, mx history, corrosion, squawks, P&I, extras. who owned it? where was it? why selling? why did you think it was good value? what planes did you dismiss? what was wrong with them? -- ALL of these factor in to a good buying decision, and so many more -- as you know. One thing you know, that almost NO ONE else shopping for a plane knows is that NO bargain is actually a bargain, unless the seller's an idiot - not many left holding on to 6 figure assets. (although I guess it happens). My favorite dodge is the low time SMOH engine -- only 450SMOH!!! (OH was in 1986). You get what I'm saying........I have no desire to do a youtube channel, but if I did, this is exactly what I'd do.
@therustypilot345223 күн бұрын
That is true on the total time on airframe and engine. Do you want these things in motion low time air frames may not be the best if they’ve been sitting for 20 years.

A 4-seater means 2 people plus full fuel... Yup!
@therustypilot345228 күн бұрын
Even in this v tail it’s pretty much 3 and enough gas to get there. Most people come into this thinking buy a plane don’t fly commercial to get the family to Disney land. … always tell them think about this as buying a Corvette. It goes fast and there’s only two seats in there. How small about a baggage
@N8844H27 күн бұрын
Many 4-seaters are like that but not all. My 1969 Straight 36 came with 6 seats and tip tanks but I would never put 6 real people in it. Did put 5 in once. But it made a terrific 4-seater, full fuel (even the tips) plus all the baggage you'd ever want. My Navions were 4-seaters, but they could easily and comfortably carry 4 real people, full fuel and a full baggage bay. Might not have been the case if I had tips. As for buying cheap and upgrading the avionics vs buying one for more money but already set up, time, as you said, is the issue. If you want to upgrade to make it just the way you want, okay. But you'll be paying more and flying less.
@therustypilot345227 күн бұрын
@@N8844H my thought coming in was I could really use all the seats but the weight gets you before the room inside does. It really does t bother me as most of my flying is 1-2 people.
