Silicone! Absolutely not!
@carstuff82087 ай бұрын
Can always use it if you know how to do it, if you have some transmission and engine knowlwdge, modern oil and transmission pans in many models don't use a gasket or oring anymore, they use silicone, so!, but thank you for your imput. And I did not used silicone because o-rings where still good, 5k plus miles later, no leaks and there won't be 👍
@bitrhbj565 ай бұрын
@@carstuff8208 The oem use of o rings voids your argument about using silicone . Just oil the o rings with ATF , that's all . Even the smallest amount of silicone can find its way to the smallest passage ways , why take the chance ? 46 year mechanic here . Motorcycle cases are a different story .

How many quarts to do drain and refill for the front transfer case ?
@attocoulomb10 ай бұрын
0.61 qt, according to the owners manual (specs like this are in the "information" section -- page 687 for the 2022 RDX). From what I have read, be careful not to re-fill it too fast. The fluid can back up, and make you think that you have gotten it full when you have not. Measure how much drains and take note of how much you have put back in.

@attocoulomb7 ай бұрын
@@jtproductionz4431 In the first part of the video, the view is looking toward the front of the car. This is nowhere near a wheel well. Fill hole is to the left of the drive shaft. So, barely on the passenger side of the centerline of the car. The drain hole is on the side of the transfer case, facing the same direction as the transmission drain bolt but a bit further toward the back of the car (maybe 6 inches?). IIRC, both are 3/8" drive. You should have a variety of 3/8" extensions to be able to remove the fill plug.

@@oviss5946 you can always change the trans fluid, mine was a lease that I bought from Acura with already 50k miles at 1 year of it being used by previous owner, 1st thing I did was change all the fluids cause I know Acura would most likely only change engine oil and nothing else, now I plan to change diff and trans fluid every additional 30k, so next change will be at 80k, problem with trans fluid will be ignoring it and for example waiting till 80k plus miles when the fluid is already out of service life, burnt and then changing it, new fluid with all its detergents will internally wash the old fluid's sludge and clogg the internal fluid filter and the trans will stay in neutral because of no fluid flow, only option will be to lower and open the transmission to fix it, all this because to this day, Honda won't design their freaking auto trans with an external oil filter that you can just change like engine oil and filter
@TTGTO288 Жыл бұрын
First of all, you are using the worst block filler ever because you are cheap. This is made to fill V8s from the bottom up, not this hokey Honda top fill crap. If you can't afford Darton sleeves, you shouldn't be racing. All you did was make a bigger mess out of junk. Buy a new block or a new car.
@tomfaz4193 Жыл бұрын
Why would you want to change the transmission fluid? Not really recommend.
@carstuff8208 Жыл бұрын
Not recommended if bought a high milleage honda with unknown transmission maintenance, because if the oil is burned and sludged up, new fluid will wash the sludge out because they are high in detergents, and all that sludge will end up in the filter and leave the car in neutral. However, if you maintain de fluid with changes before it brakes down, that won't happen. It is a new technology 10 shift transmission, I can only imagine how much the trans repair shop will charge for that repair if they even know how to do it because it is not a common transmission yet. Most likely they will learn from trial and error at the clients expense, not even honda dealer techs really know how to fix this transmissions yet. They won't deny the car under warranty and just throw it in the dealer garage and work on it at their convenience "months".

This time I reused the orings, if they look good and you don't have new ones, just oil then a little before pairing parts back . Or you can just do gray silicone with the old orings together and seal it like that, gray silicone does wonders
@carstuff8208 Жыл бұрын
Next time I change that filter, I will most likely get new orings even if I have to go to an autoparts store and match them out of an oring sizes box cause by that time orings will have 100k miles.om them so they may be toasted because of the heat .

The filter is so tiny compared to the amount of the fluid inside the transmission and I doubt if, by replacing it, it would make any difference, especially when there is no recommendation by Honda to replace it.

@carstuff82082 жыл бұрын
There is an internal filter that will need the transmission be opened to change it, however, if you don't have transmission issues and it is just a normal maintenance, this should be the only one to change, if everything is ok. The internal one is done with complete trans overhauls due to high milleage, etc or cathastrophic trasmission failure.

yeah, i'm at a dealership. They consider this a "non serviceable" filter. They do fluid change only.
@williamdkennedy10652 жыл бұрын
Good overview. Only mention on KZbin advocating to replace filter. There is a fill hole on top of the transmission that is covered with a plastic case breather filter. Take off the cross over hose from the air box to reveal. The fluid level plug can be used to fill but top access is easier. Use OEM to get proper o-rings on transmission cooler where filter is located. Also, ATF is killer on paint. Keep it clean. Use mats or cardboard on floor.
