Great synopsis. But you missed one very important thing: contrary to the novel and to the movie, Holly does NOT kill Harry. There are many hints to prove this: ➼ narrator says this is Vienna where anything is bound to happen ➼ Dr Kurtz tells Holly, 'in your stories anything can happen' ➼ when we first see Harry he is met by a cat (nine lives, remember?) ➼ kitty rubs himself against Harry's shoe which was wing tipped (Phoenix symbol - mythic figure which repeatedly rises from dead) ➼ Harry & Holly meet at Ferris Wheel (representing Circle of Life meaning endless life recycling) ➼ Harry tells Holly 'we could never hurt each other' ➼ Holly shoots at Harry but we don't see Harry's dead body ➼ At the second funeral we again do not see Harry's corpse ➼ Two years after the movie a new radio show is presented with Harry narrating his own "death" -- do dead men tell tales? ➼ Five years later Harry appears in modern day Europe in the new 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧 series which ran from 1959-1965. All the proof is there - Holly Martins did NOT kill Harry Lime.

Ha ha ha what a shame, we don't even know in 2024 that all Human beings in reality are just biological Robots. Lol 🤦🤦🤦 there's no freewill. No freedom of action. And moreover we don't even know who did this job . Lol it's a curse for us we are all no different from K.

I feel like, much like The Phantom Menace, the clout around Inception momentarily tricked audiences into thinking they've seen something spectacular. In fact, Inception is a low grade bond film with superficial "mind f*ck" gimmicks that don't hold up as complicated on repeat viewings, and awfully written dialogue.

Recently converted to the mastery of Simenon… haven’t read the headless corpse…my current favorite is Maigret and the Wine Merchant. I’ve been focusing on the later books in the series. What # in the series is this one?
@RobTangren
@RobTangren 9 ай бұрын
It is #47. Features I like about this novel are much is left unsaid, but you know that Maigret knows. Plus his fascination with the woman which makes him doubt his objectivity. So much so, his wife notices. Seemly casual comments that imply much more than is being said. If you like the Wine Merchant, you might checkout Maigret's Failure #49. Very similar.

I always believed that the theme of the film wasn't so much "Money can't buy happiness." Kane is immature, selfish, spoiled, and petty. But also sociable, bitter yes, but naive, gullible and unashamed of himself at anypoint. In a sense, he's innocent and ignorant, like a child is. "An abandoned child never grows up." is what I took away from the film. A very very powerful message.

For me... I did not like it. At all. In fact gave up after an hour - and I've just been to the cimena and loved Oppenheimer. Also loved Dunkirk and Interstellar.... and Mememto. Just don't get Inception at all. Caveat - watched it (well half of it) for first time 2 days ago.. would I have liked it 13 years ago... i dunno... maybe.. Have folks feelings on this film cooled at all? Has it aged well? I'll never know...

I disagree- the biggest problem is how talky it is and how much expository dialogue there is. It takes more than an hour before you get the rules explained to you and can finally have some fun with it. I like the movie, but I find it incredibly frustrating at points.

It just struck me as a film that thinks it's more clever than it actually is, unnecessarily "ooh look, aren't I sooooo clever, you have to watch me many many times to appreciate all my many levels, you have to be really smart to fully appreciate me..." Yeah like the emperor and his invisible clothes 🤓😂

Don't make it sound like the guy was just shot for no reason. He was a sovereign citizen with a gun driving illegally (no plate) and refusing lawful orders. . This all makes me happy when a bad guy dies. Bad guys (burglar, robber, home invader, car jacker, rapist, sovereign citizen, moorish American). . I go to sleep well with being what I saw just before going to sleep for the night. . Chase Allen had a gun in his hand or lap because the gun was found on the driver's floor.

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.” Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

Exercising your 5th Amendment right is now "being noncompliant". IMO, if they stopped the car while it was operating on the city street, telling him to get out was a lawful order. BUT! If the car was parked on Federal property and not operating at the time they approached him, there's a problem. Is having an expired licence on a non operating car on private or federal land a violation of state law. If not, the traffic stop was not legitimate and the order to exit the car was not a lawful order. Then, the attempt to pull him from the car was assult by the police officers and even if he tried to defend himself from armed attackers, his death was murder. I understand the department ordered all body cameras to be turned off. These people should face justice.
