Very cool video. If you don’t mind me asking, in your opinion, would there be any suitable campsites between the two Coney lakes?
@coloradohikingchannel28106 күн бұрын
I think it would be tough to camp between the lakes - it's pretty exposed to the wind and weather, with just shrubs and willows. But just below the first lake there are a lot of trees and you could probably find a great flat place. As you may know, the Indian Peaks Wilderness requires camping permits between 6/1 and 9/15, but it may be pretty easy to get a permit for this zone. Thanks for watching!

Super pretty hike and video. That's a lot of work to snowshoe through. I haven't done this loop.

Boulder Brook is very nice, and not much traffic, especially during the winter. Lacks some of the dramatic views of other hikes in the Bear Lake area, but a nice change of pace.

I noticed your cover photo awhile back and wondered if you had hiked to Iceberg Lakes? Congratulations! I've read it's a difficult hike up to Clayton Lake. Were there a lot of downed trees you had to climb over heading up to Clayton Lake? I've seen Iceberg Lakes from above looking down from the CDT. I have a video up backpacking to Heart Lake, but it's really bad. New to filming and editing at the time. It was so windy that my footage of the Iceberg Lakes was all shakey. I used my phone to film but held it the wrong way. Thanks for sharing this amazing hike!
@coloradohikingchannel281013 күн бұрын
Yes, that cover photo is of the Iceberg Lakes, although I took it on a different hike several years ago (like you, along the Continental Divide Trail). Some downed trees along the way to Clayton, but the big issue is the steepness: maybe even worse than Solitude and Frozen Lake approach. Worth it, though!

@@coloradohikingchannel2810 Thanks for the details. We might have to give it a try this year.

We hiked here for the first time last year. After crossing the last creek, where the bridge is out, it got steep. We had to cross a steep snow field towards Skyscraper. It had a creek flowing under it. I'm glad it didn't collapse. I liked Skyscraper. We met two guys that just flew in from Texas up there. They wanted a Rocky Mountain Hike and were laughing in exhaustion. I love meeting people on the trail and hearing their stories. Thanks for taking me back with your great video. It's such a beautiful place.

It sound like you were there earlier in the season - no snow for me. It is a great place that not a lot of people get up to, and would be a nice spot for a backpack trip.

Thanks for the video. We were supposed to backpack to Coney Lake last August but the weather was terrible. We did Red Deer and Gibraltar Lakes the next week. I really want to hike to Upper Coney Lake, maybe beyond. I hear there's a blue tarn higher up. Which side of Coney Lake did you skirt to get to the upper lake? Willows on the north and rocks on the south. You did a lot of hiking last year. Congratulations!
@coloradohikingchannel281015 күн бұрын
Getting to Upper Coney was tricky. I made the mistake of going through brush and willows on the way out; I highly recommend staying on the rocks to the south the entire way. There's definitely a slow stretch over talus, but then it opens up, you get some grass under your feet, and it's really nice!

I'd love to do this hike! Love the views of the No No lakes below, Boulder Water Shed. They used to let people hike in there. Was the narrow, steep trail to the summit loose or slippery?
@coloradohikingchannel281018 күн бұрын
It is disappointing not to be able to go down to those lakes, but the views are great. The trail to the peak is loose in places and quite steep, particularly for the descent. But there are often handholds, and poles help. Thanks for watching!
We love this area. I'm so happy you went down to the beautiful blue lake. How did you like crossing the frigid creek? We backpacked to Red Deer Lake, August 15-17, 2024 and hiked to the Gibraltar Lakes the next day. We're planning to go back, stay two days and three nights in the area where the creek looks like a big pond, in 2025. On our hike out, two miles from the trailhead, I was hiking fast down hill and rolled my ankle. ( I didn't put this in the video.) Second degree sprain, a tear in one of my ligaments. I was able to hike out. I still went on another backpacking trip to the Rawahs the following weekend with my ankle wrapped and in a brace. I still do this even months later. Lovely video. Is it summer yet????
@coloradohikingchannel281020 күн бұрын
I agree it is a beautiful area, and your campsite sounds perfect. The creek crossing is a bit intimidating, but absolutely worth it. So sorry to hear about your ankle - you are still able to get some great long hikes in, though!

That was a lot of hiking for one day! Love those areas of RMNP. When I read your title, I thought you headed from the Upper Glacier Gorge, above Black Lake, over to Shelf and Solitude. I know a couple of people who have traversed that way. (Sketchy for sure) . Thanks for the video.

Very pretty hike. I had a heck of a time finding Upper Piney Lake on Google Earth. It's all frozen over in the satellite shot. I've only hiked to Pitkin Lake in the Eagles Nest. That video will probably be out next Friday if I can't get out for a hike before.
@coloradohikingchannel281023 күн бұрын
I've never been to Pitkin Lake - looking forward to your video. Upper Piney Falls is very popular, but I didn't see anyone between it and Upper Piney Lake, and that trail is faint and hard to follow in places. Definitely one I'd like to repeat, though!
@TrekkingTheRockies23 күн бұрын
You created quite the route, very impressive. I love Snow Lake. I've never hiked to Lake of the Clouds. (I've heard there are big spiders that live among the boulder field?) I was wondering while watching if you ever backpack, overnight. Then I saw your tent. Your video makes me miss summer so much. Very pretty!!!!
@coloradohikingchannel281023 күн бұрын
I didn't see any spiders at Lake of the Clouds, but it is a big, tedious boulder field. I do love backpacking, but only get to do it a few times a year.

I really enjoy your off trail hikes to remote lakes. My car doesn't like the 4th of July road, but we have a backup plan for 2025. I want to hike to Neva Lakes, Upper Diamond Lake and Lake Xanadu. Thanks for taking me along.

Thank you! Yes, the off trail trips always make me feel like an explorer - a bit more of an adventure. The trip in to Neva Lakes is a lot of fun - beautiful, but a bit tricky at the end when you hit the boulders and talus.
