i prefer the Simon and Garfunkle version but this one is very good. I feel like the S & G one captures something extra with the sad melancholy tone of it. It makes the message more uplifting

Such a beautiful song...caused my eyes to tear up when I first heard it on the radio back in the day ....and still at my senior age. 😭--🧑🦳🎹🕊️🤍

It's the backup singers doin' the hard work of singing this Chorus. But love what Aretha does with the verses. Still, I'm partial to Dionne's sweet original version of this one.

This is, for me, one of the many proofs that God exists and that music is one of his many gifts to us. Even if we don’t have the talent to sing or play like these musicians, we have the innate capacity to appreciate its glory and be moved to our depths by it. How ironic that the song’s author is a white, Jewish kid from New York (Paul Simon) and the singer is from a completely different background and yet through music, they are united and beautiful. Goosebumps.

If you want to understand the reason why gospel singers and musicians stand out ... listen to Aretha Franklin ... all this musicality is rooted in playing hymns, choruses and the blues and understanding song form ... not taught academically but infused innately in a church gospel spirit filled environment

How difficult is it to take a song that is so familiar in it's original form and basically turn it into your own? This version embodies everything I've come to know of her. It lives in a Gospel lane, with as much musicianship as anyone could ever muster. How great thou art Queen of Soul.
