You can put metal over shingles if it's done correctly. My parents house has had one over their house for 35 years and it's still holding strong.

What does laying a metal roof over shingles have to do with s loose screw that probably missed solid wood underneath??🤷🏻♂️

The condensation inside the pipe would run back down to the furnace where the furnace has a drain for that, usually into a pump. It's a concentric vent pipe, there's a pipe inside a pipe, inside is exhaust outer is fresh combustion air for the furnace. I don't think that's your leak might want to look at some other things

Who’s the idiot that used white pvc? Should have used abs, than you wouldn’t have that problem. Also, who’s the idiot that put 2 nails through the bottom of the boot?
@mattmorris4217Ай бұрын
If it’s a 90% furnace, yes you get condensation that will run back to the unit and at the unit you have to install a condensate pump to pump it outdoors. The pvc needs to have fall all the way back to the unit, otherwise it’ll stop the air from being pushed out. The pvc should be glued properly to prevent leaking.
@sampantilianoАй бұрын
The furnace is supposed to condensate.
@therealhvacАй бұрын
That is a concentric kit. The middle pipe you’re referring to is supposed to have condensation on it. That is the exhaust. The bottom of that cone pulls in fresh air to the furnace. I think you might want to look at the seals at the bottom of the concentrate kit piping. Check the metal pipe above it. Showing signs of age.

I generally agree that it is a bad concept to install a 30-50 year product over a degraded material that will continue to breakdown.
@sj64042 ай бұрын
The upside to doing it is that you're creating an an extra air gap that didn't exist before. If you remove the asphalt roof and put the metal right down you're loosing the second air gap. Homes that have metal over shingles are MUCH cooler in the summer than those that don't - its like having a big tree over your whole roof.

You can lay metal over shingles, just select your screws length right, needs anchor right all the way to hard surface.
@paulrhodes309410 ай бұрын
What does that screw not being tight have to do with metal over shingles?
@davidshumway96399 ай бұрын
He is inferring that the shingles degrade (get thinner) and cause a gap between the metal and shingles over time.
