The subject matter is too dicey or too unknown. Just like filmmakers have come to avoid all colonial wars like the plague, they can't figure out a way to make it without making audiences uncomfortable, and they'd rather not make them at all than take some kind of a stand. Or they're just calculating that all non-world war wars are too unknown to the general public to generate interest. Personally I would love a remake of Zulu, for example, maybe this time including the Zulu perspective.
