Their Smart-Lok front differential is a true shift on the fly system. It's been out for several years now. They still have the Visco-Lok system too in other vehicles. I like the smart-lok but I agree it was long over due.

As a Pioneer owner I am truly satisfied with the 1000 deluxe. Having said that these 2 machines are both amazing. I chose the Pioneer from just having such great luck with there ATV’s over the years but it’s fit interior looks archaic compared to the defender. Comfort and looks most certainly the defender all day. If you plan on keeping a machine for a very long time Honda is tough to beat. Just my 2 cents.

Honda certainly has a well deserved reputation for reliability. Some of them aren't without their problems though. I had a Commander with over 18000 km on it that ran perfectly when I sold it. I also had a friend with a Honda Rincon that had a lot of electrical issues over the years.

I own a defender hd9 dps cab and am very happy with it. It doesn’t have ac but I use it mostly in the colder seasons anyway. It rides comfortably, cab seals well , stays warm in extreme cold , no dust or cold drafts in the cab, very quiet in the cab , no engine heat in the cab . I also own a 700 pioneer which is very similar to my neighbours 1000 pioneer . My 700 has the full hard cab and heat. It rides comfortably, cab does not seal well , doesn’t stay warm in the extreme cold , the cab fills with dust and the drafts are terrible, extreme engine heat and noise in the cab . The dash in the Honda isn’t sealed at all so dust and cold flow into the cab. I had to install a sound /heat barrier under the seat , because it’s very uncomfortable in the warm seasons. My neighbour has the same issues with his 1000. Mechanically the Hondas are amazing machines they just need to refine the cabs for more comfort .

Thanks for the detailed post. I like reading about the experiences of others with various machines. One thing I noticed with the Defender Limited I rode in last summer across NL was how quiet and clean it was inside. Like you mentioned, it's fully sealed, barely any dust entered the cab. It was like riding in a small pickup which was genuinely nice when everyone else was completely covered in dust on the same trip.

The rest can't compare cause very different machines, 570eps.ive been watching Cfmoto, fit quite a few y years now, and am impressed how far they've come in a short while,. Think Honda back in the eighties. Imho Polaris and Canam are and will lose market share to them. If this was on the market when I bought my Defender 3 months ago i'd have given it a hard look as yah, that eight k in savings is a lot of parts repairs. Nice comparisons cheers.

However can am should be adding the stereo in all cab models for the price as well as an up to date touch screen.

@CJP63 I'm curious did you ride a new CFMOTO or was it an older one? I had a few friends that had a few CFMOTO Zforce 500 machines back in 2017, and they were garbage. Both of them had blown engines, suspension problems, and electrical issues. Luckily, just about everything was covered under warranty. They sold them, and one guy bought a Commander, and the other bought a Maverick. They still have them. Another friend of mine bought a ZForce 1000 in 2018, and it has been pretty much bulletproof. I have seen some of the newer CFMOTO machines from about 2021, and up seem to be pretty durable. Hopefully I'll get the chance to take one for a ride and see how they feel.

Our close proximity to the US makes that difficult.

I love the large interior of the Defender, the high seating position with good line of sight out of the machine, and all the cargo space compared to the Maverick. The Defender takes a bit more work to get through tight spots and over technical terrain. The Maverick is quicker to get through rough stuff and handles better.
