Going on retreats in the monastery is something i try to do. Its lovely joining them for prayers as early as 2:45am (the monastery i visit, here in nigeria). Once my retreat is over after three days, i am always refreshed both physically and spiritually. It keeps one away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, and you a literally enveloped in the closed palms of God. The air is still, the trees are calm, and life seems to just stop, removing all worries of that crazy traffic, noisy nebour, dogs barking etc. I may retire as a monk...when all my kids are grown and independent

Contemplative Monastic Life is the best life on earth. A unique vocation. Anyone who has no this special call will never never grasp it's beauty. 25 years in a monastery: if I were to become young again, I would definitely choose Monastic Life. Monastic Life is the same everywhere.... crowned with great simplicity and joy in the Lord 🙏.

They started with 16 in 1964 and in 2021 still only have 16. Virtually all Catholic religious orders are only half the size they were before Vatican 2.

Where's the "monestry"? All one sees is a convent with nuns. Monasteries have monks and brothers...

Very common misconception! Monastery can be used to describe housing to any form of monastic life. Cloistered nuns still live in a monastery, the word convent is typically for religious sisters who have an active apostolate and are not cloistered

I give the Pope's my sympathies. They have no idea. I am concerned enough to give warning. I'm 73 myself and a theologian historian. Ancient Rome had vestal virgins who kept the flame of Rome alive forever. It was believed that if they lost their virginity or the flame went unattended and went out, Rome would be conquered and die. They would be killed if either happened. Along comes a new religion into the Republic with a Virgin. Persecutions stopped a lot because there was a forever Virgin connected to a God involved. Suddenly, a Mother Mary craze hit the early church that did not affect the other regions at that ancient time that Christianity was born. Over time it became Mother Mary-anity and now it's nothing like it was preached in Rome by Peter. Mary began to replace Jesus as the ultimate moral law pronouncer holiness giver. There is a way that seems right onto a man. The Church has elevated Mary as the true Oracle of Almighty God, I N S T E A D, of Jesus. Here are some examples: Church; - Mother Mary is God's mother therefore she speaks for Him. So, since she is a mother, she can correct her son. Mary says, (in your imagination) that God and his angels REJOICE IN HEAVEN WHEN A BABY IS BORN AND DELIVERED FROM AN ABORTION, AND GOD SAYS HE WANTS IT BORN AND IS HAPPY TO SEE IT ARRIVE ON EARTH. JESUS; - SAYS: REJOICE N O T When a soul enters the world but rather woe and mourn, for it's time of test is upon it and if it fails it will burn in hell forever. And mourn N O T when a soul dies, but rather REJOICE, because it's time of being tested has gone and it will no longer be in danger of eternal damnation. Now, which is right???? God says NO abortions because it makes Him unhappy, or, God says abort the soul before Satan has a chance to snatch it away from Me???? WARNING!!!!!!!! YOU'RE BEING TESTED HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't get this right at the Pearly Gates you'll burn in hell forever. Who is right??????? If God is an immutable ever unchanging GOD, then why would he change Jesus' words that life and B I R T H MAKES HIM HAPPY AND REJOICEFUL?????? Somebody has to right. All I am saying is what Jesus told his disciples to teach. When did He tell Mother Mary something different????? Now, who is right?? Mary or Jesus???? Your eternity depends on getting this question right? Secret hint; "Is Mary God in Heaven?”

Where did the idea come from? Can you find a nun in the Bible?

@@Andy-sx5pm Thanks for reply! Ok, I don't negate such behavior and that what Jesus did. Being a nun is surely a good picture of modesty and so on, but this kind of service is molded by religion, and tradition of men, it requires obedience, doing many rituals that are not found in the Bible. God bless:)

A habit doesn't make a nun. Habits are an outward sign of one's poverty and belonging to a particular community, Trappistine nuns have kept most of what is traditional except their coif has changed. The Coif is the garment's headpiece and includes the white cotton cap secured by a bandeau and a white wimple or guimpe of starched linen, cotton, or (today) polyester to cover the cheeks and neck. It is sometimes covered by a thin layer of black crêpe. The cornette was another type of coif. Veil: This element is worn pinned over the coif head coverings. Some veils could be worn down to cover the face or up to expose it. The veil sometimes includes a white underveil as well. The color of the veil depends as well from the habit of the order and the status of the nun (novices or postulants wear differently colored veils than the professed nuns). Trappistines are cloistered nuns to boot. So for them is more a reminder that they a part of a community. My guess is you are a male. I suggest you wear the old-style habits you are familiar to you, with all the starch and laundering they require. These nuns are working nuns and wear work clothes while working at their various jobs around the monastery. The more "modern" are more in line with what women like Mary would have worn in our Lord's time anyway. "Since the habit is a sign of consecration, poverty and membership in a particular Religious family, I join the Fathers of the Synod in strongly recommending to men and women religious that they wear their proper habit, suitably adapted to the conditions of time and place." ~ Pope Saint John-Paul II in his post-apostolic Exhortation Vita consecrata (1996) says concerning the religious habit of consecrated persons: §25 Constitutions do not have a specific habit should ensure that the dress of their members corresponds in dignity and simplicity to the nature of their vocation. Prayer and working with God's will are the path, not what one wears.
