Hello, I like your work it’s wonderful. I would like to convert my DS rear to 72” and Im wondering if the 64” trailing arms can go wide and fit 72” RADIUS ARMS and 72” wide HEAVY-DUTY AXLE-RHINO 2.0 putting in consideration I will use Rear Shock Brackets.

I think you can use 64” trailing arms. Don’t use the brackets if you do. I think if you do, you will overextend and break your CV joints. When the axles overextend, the CV joints bind up

Torque is what you want for off-roading and maintaining speed on the highway. Torque in a useful rpm range is the problem in all US jeeps. IMO either get a 4 cylinder and do a v8 or diesel swap (by far my preference but it depends how much you like using the skinny pedal and refueling) or stay with the inline 6 and regear/axles and stay 35s or less. Forced induction is for diesel and race vehicles. The wheelbase is another issue too and more reason to run smaller tires. TJs are much easier to deal with running 33s or smaller though and regear before looking for hp. HP is for race vehicles and tractors where rpms are always going to stay in a small window. All the hp mods don’t give enough low rpm torque to matter for general driving.

@bulletproofdirtworx4030
@bulletproofdirtworx4030 Жыл бұрын
Ok I did not verify this, but the Dynatrac knuckle did appear to have a flat top Chevy style Dana 44 style mount. Now that’s what I remember from my old 1976 Chevy I had 30 years ago. Things to think about. Using a stock arm, see if you get full turning on your axle. I did not with my setup. Pretty easy to check, hook it up, turn to full steering lock, see if the knuckle hits the stop or not. You really want it right on. Too little you lose turning radius, too much, the power steering will hit the stop before full lock, which will really start trying to bend or break stuff if you keep turning the wheel

Good video but we have a few issues going on here. First the car will never go that low with the springs on even if you bottom them out. Next is if they are bottoming out under either normal riding or even taking small jumps you don't have your shocks set correctly. I am running a 32X10 on my 2018 64 xds and they never have hit the fire wall or anything else for that matter. I do have MSA beadlock wheels on it so the off set may be a little difference but not much. I'm looking at 35's right now.

A few years ago Lippert sent out thousands of axles that were overgreased. The grease got on the brake drums and the brakes quit working. Grand Design RV and others used these axles. I called Grand Design. They said I would have better luck (or faster luck) calling Lippert directly. I did and within a week or so I had four brand new hub assembles. So the moral of the story is call Lippert directly. Sundowner is the middle man and you don't know if they or Lippert was the hold up.

@bulletproofdirtworx4030

We have two X3’s. I’m expecting say 10,000 or more. Based on, I service it as recommended, every 1000 miles. We also don’t mud bog it. Water will ruin an engine if you drown it. We ride sand a lot, so I change air filters every trip. I don’t just clean air filters, I replace them with new. Finally, we run power upgrades, but nothing crazy. 91 octane 200 hp gas tunes, with proper blow off settings, and with cat delete to reduce heat. And we watch our temp guages and take breaks when running hard. Wife has 3500 miles no issues, I’m at 2500 no issues.

If you do a rear drum to disk conversion like I did for my 05 TJ the 4.5X5 15 inch rims the brakes seem to be fine with 37s for me and has been for years but with rear drums it was a bit weak braking. Both axles are Dana 44s. Running offset steel rims, canned the spacers. But yeah rear disk conversion was a massive help with 37s and 15 inch rims i prefer more side wall personally! I'm also up in Maine and not desert running all day in extremely hot areas where it causes extra heat on your braking system. Great vid it randomly popped up. TY for sharing. Decent looking build!! Nice!!

Ive owned 4 different TJs over the last 22 yrs and I still found much of this vid to be helpful although I did make the same message you did with the " power adders". In my mind the only reliable horsepower to be added to this rock solid motor is to increase the displacement and anyone thinking about stuffing a turbo under the hood so they can crawl through the woods..... Don't do it! Turbos are for race cars and rice rockets🤷
