To ensure perfect safety while also allowing for maximum freedom is to base the entire thing on informed consent. AI, at scale, could allow for each individual person or intelligence to give/obtain informed consent. That would result in perfect alignment

I haven't finished listening to the whole discussion yet, but my initial reaction is to postulate that poor monetary policy (i.e. chronically low interest rates) helped contribute to this phenomenon, particularly between the years of 2007-2022. Companies like Uber could vacuum in money from investors desperate for any type of positive return, and afford to artificially suppress their competition for years on end. My belief is that with interest rates returning to normal, we will see a 'housecleaning' of enshittified tech companies and (hopefully) a return back to customer/competition-focused business practices. The major rounds of downsizing that have been going on in tech companies for the past year or so have made be believe this prediction is currently playing out 🔮🔮

I like how you explain the way the small details of enshittification. I knew it all was about too few companies owning too much of the economy, and finding any trick to make line go up next fiscal quarter. What I did not know was how the corporate overlords found ways to squeeze every cent out of a platform, then fly away on a golden parachute when the enshitt hits the fan.

It's really important that we, consumers of services and providers of data, be reminded about the motivations or social media companies like we have been here. The section 230 of 1996 referenced would certainly look a lot different if it were written a few weeks before the capitol riots or if they were written post Biden inauguration. Even the leading technologists of that day didn't foresee the revolution of social media. Google didn't even exist.. Legislation is increasingly lagging behind technological innovations as are executive bodies' abilities to enforce it. Thank you for keep us informed!
