i played ffxi for several years when it first came out in the US, and this raid is really making me want to go back and play it again. real big nostalgia vibes for me.

20 year player of FFXI here. That form of Shadow Lord is from WotG expansion pack. That IS the Shadow Lord's True power. The original final boss of the game, the starter of the Crystal Wars, destroyer of Vana'Diel in the alternate time line, lord and champion of the beastmen. I played FFXI 6 years straight and over a year play time with no regrets. Best times. I started in Remora server, then it was merged with Leviathan. Before I quit I was playing WHM/RDM, but I had to quit, not turning back. I gave a shot for FFXIV much later than I quit FFXI, but I couldn't get into it. I was swimming in tons of gil and I couldn't buy my own house because of plot restrictions. That ruined everything for me, and I was furious about that housing system. I was not fine with an apartment flat, sorry. I wish you all have fun with it, as FFXIV can really be fun with friends just like FFXI was.

Hello! "Walk of Echoes" is the key to this where the big Atomos having all memories of all Vana'diels universes. So many copies of the original Vana'diel are other Universes of worlds that has Vana'diel name or other names but a copy of the original, so Etheirys might be a copy of Vana'diel that is in its own universe.

Armored Shadowlord is a raid boss from Wings of the Goddes. An expansion where we travel into the past and experience the Crystal War first hand.

The orange kiting tether was a refrence to the fact that Ark Angel hume would use the warrior 2hr ability mighty strikes which gaurentees he crits and gives him a huge regain effect that allows him to spam weaponskills so the only way to avoid having him destroy people was to kite him. XD

you'd be worrying more about your key item than your food and 2hr when wiping to divine might XD you'll have to wait till the next new moon to get the key item returned o w o

Fafnir was one of the six land kings. There were three different spawn camps for the six land kings (HNMs) Each camp was home to 2 notorious monsters know as the land kinds. Behemoth , Fafnir and Adamantoise. They each has a 26-32 hrs respawn timer pretty much like the S ranks in XIV. However after every spawn there would be an increasing chance that in place of the three a stronger more deadlier version would spawn instead. This chance was lowered to 0% then would steadily go up by about 10% per kill until the sixth or seventh kill where the higher version would be guarenteed to spawn instead. This would typically take anywhere from 52-86 hrs. The higher versions were King Behemoth , Nidhogg and Aspidochelen.

This was unexpected situation in the game and definitely a situation that never happened before (that whole "out of body" situation), but fun in any case.

Vana'diel isn't another shard, the FF11, FF13, FF15 and FF16 collaborations are canon to the characters, the mini-event we get with Iroha is canon to her story as it's referenced in Dissidia briefly as well. Lightning's appearance was a trial from Bhunivelze, mentioned in a novel, Noctis and Co slipping between planets happens, etc. Sareel Ja managed to momentarily dip into the 9th Shard, where Electrope is, since that's the only place it exists, but due to the nature of tapping briefly into the interdimensional rift, he caught memories from the planet FF11 takes place on, and he's using those memories in conjunction with Electrope to create minions. He's just trying to take control since he got screwed over by Zoraal Ja. We're probably going to see Eald'narche and Kam'lanaut, my theory regarding Eald'narche is that he's going to cause massive trouble and probably kill Sareel Ja. This will lead into Shantotto herself appearing, using the interdimensional rift, the REAL Shantotto, too, not an Electrope creation, to help sort out problems from her world harming another. Eald'narche is far too smart to be manipulated, even a fake electrope copy.

This is exactly the kind of player I was looking for. Someone (or a group of people) who obviously loved FFXI. I do not like FFXIV, but this does wonders for my heart. Also yes, the Fool and the Hermit was for Sleepga II

as an 11 player when i was a kid this made me really happy but also really sad acause this was the game i played with my uncle that was basicly like a father to me he recently passed because of covid so this quest/raid made all the memories come back

As a 20+ year FFXI player, I am chomping at the bits to do this raid, and I NEVER do the raids unless they’re story relevant. Sadly I am homeless at the moment and I need to focus on that, but the moment I can get back into game and have the time to do this raid, I am diving in head first ❤

To correct what people said about the armored Shadow Lord not being from XI. It is actually from the "Fiat Lux" fight in the Wings of the Goddess expansion. The sword he holds in the second half splits in two in and he later weilds them in each hand. His armor is cool in XI but not super golden.

That Mithra beside the pillar in Jeuno is such a THF build prior to Homam set. Wearing an O-Hat, SH+, Strider or Leaping boots? and their generic AF pants because they couldn't equip a Byakko's Haidate. That would have been nice. Also had a blue dagger which I assume is a Blau Dolch.

when shadowloard got his armor is from wings of the goddess era , he had that armor on in the past . so its still ffxi form of him .

As someone who wasn’t sold enough to be in the FF11 sphere it’s actually so heartwarming to see players from the old game reminisce about it and see all these memories. It seems like the FFXIV team put a lot of care into this one, makes me wonder what FF11 used to be like

I remember my first kirin kill. It was epic. I was a 75rng and i got seiryu's kote on my first sky run. I had already been addicted but that sky run sealed my fate for years. I ended up with a 75rng, 75rdm, 75bst, 75nin (back when it was a tank) and 75whm. I quit right before they raised the level cap to 99

The raid was so so good. Definitely a much needed dub for DT

Odd thing: Zoraal Ja is perhaps the only person out of the main cast of _Dawntrail_ who never remarks about the strength of the WoL. Although he/she isn't the focal character of this expansion, everyone throws out a comment or two about it. Even Bakool Ja Ja warned his men about challenging him, and Queen Sphene commented about his/her reliability.
