I’m going to be building a 10ft with a 1100 Yamaha here in Wisconsin. Any tips of things you wish you did or didn’t do? Or must haves.

I cut the oem waterbox open in several places and shortened it by about 50%. It’s a touch louder than I wanted. I made my own reverse bucket that was hull mounted and “w” shaped. That allowed me to turn and stop amazing. For my boat I used all Yamaha oem pump and drive system but adapted it to an ASP intake casting. This required the shaft to be cut to length and resplined. I used an early model GP1200 steering cable I think from SBC. It was the longest. I made my own steering column. If I would have done left hand drive i wouldn’t have had to make an extension under the dash. Perhaps one of those store bought steering systems would be best but mine worked really smooth once I got it all dialed. Make sure you have some sort of steering stops or you will break a cable eventually. I made duel Aluminum fuel tanks that sat in the back and held 14gal total. I often thought more fuel capacity would have been nice but I just carried fuel cans when I had to. I eventually did extensive hull damping and insulation for noise after finishing my aluminum dog house engine cover. I really liked the doghouse style cover because I had storage and walking room. My sides under the gunnals had L track welded on and I could lash equipment down. Also the track raised the vibration frequency in the hull sides and allowed me to damp it better with butyl and foam. I think we should all be using a stomp grate. I had make a tool to reach under the boat and clear my fixed grate. I had lap belts and that was super nice to have. If you want to really talk about it we can on the phone or something. These days there’s a lot of stuff you can just buy.

Dear @@jdh1047 would like to learn more about your build! I'm Welding the same boat, and have the same 1100cc triple carburator. is it possible that I could receive pictures about your pump and engine lay-out? Maybe you have tips for me where to pay extra attention to.
