Nicest original shovel I've ever seen. The 5 gallons with the shifter gate are the ONLY ones I've ever seen. Wow!

I got a 1974 police special ordered with a handshift ,the detent was in the frame .I never seen a hand shift shovel with a gate on the tank ,as for as i know and I had several since the late 70s harley never made a tank shift like that (5 gallon tanks) since the late 50s or early 60s , and those where 3 1/2 gallons .

The Shovel had a battery cover but one tab was broke and I didn’t want any aftermarket parts so I left it off

I’m pretty sure you can find a good set of 3 gallon tank shift tanks 👍

Wow pretty crazy most took a lot of time to do research like that. No chrome battery cover? Did the police bikes not come with that? I would love to have a tank shift on mine the closest I could come is a police style frame mount shifter on my Frankembike Paughco Duo Glide frame 48 pan bottom 66 shovel top.

Up until 1978 you could order hand shift, tankshift or police shifter. Most were police style because when ordered people weren't specific in they're want!! NICE BIKE

My first Harley was an old San Antonio Police 56 black and white FL. It was what I learned to ride a foot clutch on. After that I had two 1959 Harley's both FL as the first one was. In 1976 I bought a Bi Centennial police model. FLH. I had it converted to a hand shift and foot clutch. I had to wrangle up the small 3 gallon tanks. These were off a 1947 Harley. I had the Hog Haus here in SA do all the work. Had many bikes after those, but to this day when I stop, I still put my right foot on the ground.

Yep the rocker clutch can be very addictive
@shvlhdhd29275 жыл бұрын
I believe it is the only one. The 1976 is at great south HD and it has a frame mounted shifter
@rysammy5 жыл бұрын
What makes you think that? I have eeen several and my buddy has 3 sets of tanks taken off from conversions.

Come to think of it, the bikes were gen and cones, but all had drum brakes. So 67-72 range.

Did Harley tell you how many of these were made?

Nice bike. Not VIN number, just VIN. VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number. No need to say vehicle identification number number.
