Ronnie and Hendry are just two different types of player. Ronnie didn't peak until into his 30s and continues to be one of the best players with - undisputedly - the greatest longevity of any professional in the sport's entire history. Hendry burned brighter than anyone else for a decade, peaked and was never the same again thereafter. Still a great player, but by his own admission developed "the yips" that threw his game off entirely. I'd personally argue that longevity of peak performance and dominance trumps a simple statistic like "time between championships" any day of the week. That being said, though... Ronnie himself would likely admit that he wouldn't be the player he is today if it wasn't for him being inspired by Hendry on his way up. Hendry is Ronnie's idol, after all.

Ronnie knew a thing or two about being overwhelmed, and it was beautiful to see how quickly he sized up the situation and literally shepherded Ding out and away to safety.

It must of been very difficult for Ding and I can't imagine being Ding in this situation especially when you don't feel like finishing the game off, although he is in foreign land he did well for himself at 19 being in the masters final away from home so tough. Hats of to Ronnie and everyone for showing support to Ding.

Ronnie without doubt the best player to pick up the cue, but put him in a 4 session match with a prime Hendry and IMO Hendry comes out on top every time, his mental strength and bottle have never been matched to this day. Hendry in his prime against anyone, Higgins, Ronnie, Selby or Williams, I’d have my last penny on the great man.

I honestly believe that Stephen is the best player ever to grace the sport of snooker. Ronnie for all his brilliance took twenty eight years to get one behind Stephen’s seven world titles. He has now been a professional snooker player for thirty consecutive years. True Hendry only made one (losing) world final and two semi but he was up against the best players around in the 2000s. Plus he didn’t try as hard to get the eighth, ninth and tenth titles as he no longer practiced as much as he says in his book me and the table.
