Noooo! Never skip a track, always play both sides! If I play side one then get distracted, when I go back to it I always must play side two before I put it away. Some album tracks are less favourite than others but they're still on that album and must be heard. Often those "ugly ducklings" release their charm over time and grow into favourites. I could not ever skip tracks or not play a side.

Danny Baker isn't as busy now, in 2024 as he was back when these were produced. Let's have a new updated series bringing us right up to date.

Glad i'm not the only one who in his 70's collects LP's not just for the music but cherishing a great design cover. My 3 music favourite's [now somewhat lost in obscurity] would be Soft Machine 2, Caravans 'In the Land of Grey and Pink' and Fairport Convention's 'Unhalfbricking'.

they also say they thought they were coming to a grunge type show and most of his songs are heavy rock songs at this time so they thought they were a rock band with one or two grunge type songs more on the lighter with a catchy melody. in this video you can hear people shocked at how powerful his voice is considering how skinny he is.. he responded to his dirty long unkept hair by saying he washed it in the sink before coming on. ill give you guys one more fan gem....at one show late night in a college dormroom on halloween big ass speakers in a small dorm sized space if u know college this is all before 1990 btrw during the 89 bleach tour actually cause i went on a binge.

53:44 I think I've just found the PERFECT woman. I've watched the whole of this (excellent) programme and not only does she talk a lot of sense throughout, look gorgeous... at the end she pulls out this album from her bag. SHA is an absolutely superb album, so well done that lady.

My first 45 was Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel! I always loved the uptempo stuff. But I still liked ballads and bought them too. In the 80's I shifted to maxi-singles. I still look at 45's on line especially the new reissued ones.

58:15 - I remember my first record ("Frankenchrist" by DEAD KENNEDYS) but not my first kiss while playing a record. I do however remember my first "time" and which band (one of the discs from THE MISFITS "⚰ box set") was playing in my friend's multi-disc CD player.

I 'think' my first sible on a 45 was Rosemary Clooney's "Come On A My House". I was more thrilled & happy when I bought my single 45's than I was when I got older and could afford any kind of record I wanted. So you see - the saying that 'money isen't everything' is TRUE.

I always desperately want to like Danny Baker because I believe that he is a good person underneath all the pomp, but he is such an elitist and has his inflated head stuck so far up his own arse. He talks for other people way too much without the words "in my opinion" probably even entering his head.

What a great documentary. Absolutely marvelous. I'm from the States & once again, I find it's the BBC that produced this goldmine of a documentary. My early teen years (1963) found me earning money painting & washing windows. Then on Saturday, off to the record store (that sold 45's at 89 cents each), or Woolworth's (that had discounted white boxes filled with 15 records for a $1 -- only 2 45's were visible on the front & back to base a decision. Maybe junk. Maybe treasure. I gambled & bought 4 boxes at a time -- that's 60 records with flipsides -- 120 discovery songs. And some were indeed great songs. Teddy Randazzo's "Let the Sunshine In," is marvelous. I think an English group covered it. Johny Foxx's "Mountain Dew - A New R&B Version" is delicious. Chet Barnes' & the Skylarks' "Every Time It Rains," was soul before soul. The Poet's instrumental "Out to Lunch," is catchy. I got The Beatles with Tony Sheridan on MGM in these boxes, "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." And their Atco release "Ain't She Sweet" opened my eyes. It was fun. Then I discovered that decade's dollar store at B&D's. They had lots of cheap items, clothing, soap, pillowcases, bandanas. A sunk-in wooden table filled with a mess of 45's. All new & 10 cents each. There was Dion & the Belmonts, old Bobby Darin's, old blues 45's by name artists, records by Petula Clark on Laurie Records that weren't hits, some Brenda Lee's I never heard of. The Kingsmen (not the 'Louie, Louie" band) with a hot instrumental "Weekend." I peed in my pants it was so much fun. The excitement was also in the hunt... Timi Yuro's "Down in the Valley," with "Gotta Travel On," was a find. Dick & DeeDee's "The Mountain's High," was gold to me. There were Johnny Rivers songs on the Roulette label before he hit with "Memphis." I was amazed to find The Troggs' "Wild Thing," on both Fontana & Atco labels (this was only recently in the Top 25). B-sides wow..."Park Preserve," by Climax (hit side "Precious & Few") is a jazz workout that's incredible. "Goin' Down," by The Monkees is the flipside of "Daydream Believer." Full big band jazz fire with an incredibly fast vocal by Mickey Dolenz, a dynamic trumpet & Buddy Rich type drums by Eddie Hoh. The Marketts hit "Out of Limits," which had a great instrumental flip side in "Bella Dalena." David Seville's "The Chipmunk Song," was a big novelty hit song (green Liberty Records label) but the flip was Seville (Ross Bagdasarian) playing a jazz piano on an instrumental tune called "Almost Good," which was terrific. I'm surprised jazz pianists haven't picked up on this tune. My first 45 was surprisingly a Bert Kaemphert instrumental "Afrikaan Beat." I still have it, still love it. Johnny River's hit "Memphis," Brenda Lee's "All Alone Am I," came next & Elvis followed soon after & kept coming. Great documentary. I will watch this one again.
