My grandma worked at Hobby airport in Houston Texas in 1973 as someone who would track where the planes were on the map and put data in, and she said they lost it on the map and found out it hit a mountain. She said it was a terrible accident.

Blows my mind how little this channel got in subs, almost anything that has Gus is entertaining, along with how much detail there is…just doesn’t make sense how there isn’t at least 200k following this.

The engineer was with the flight attendant when the propeller came off. They were BOTH looking out the window when the propeller came off and cut a hole in the fuselage.

Check out Mentour Pilot for an excellent coverage of this incident . The guy is a current pilot. This narration is done by a non pilot, and his lack of knowledge shows.

I thinque hes confuséd. Wasn't TCAS a resulté of thé Othér Cerritos incident (Aeroméxice Flight 498) TCAS wasn't a thing till 1981 (FAA Mandated), the incident in this video (PSA 182) occurred in 1978 😮😮😮

So i Googled this because i had to see what it looked like. It should be noted, in my opinion at least, that this happened way back in 1988. Which to me is even more impressive since airtravel has evolved quite a bit since then and they managed to do all land a plane in that condition back then

This is a much better examination if the Avianca flight. When the Mayday doc landed on KZbin it was not very in depth and actually missed a lot of contributing factors. That led to a lot of the comments either missing the fact the doc mentioned criticism of the NTSB report or completely blaming the ATC making the assumption that all the ATC functioned as one unit without taking into account crew performance deficiencies and airline procedures. Even the victims interviewed were so detached that they seem to not have a fundamental understanding of why their plane crashed. This gives a much clearer image and much more nuanced. I get those docs are not that great, but it was not even close to keeping with the philosophy that there are always multiple contributing factors to an accident.

Chris' reference to the lack of personal culpability for the paper pushers is an exact sight into the world of mechanical consumer goods and the sluffing of responsibility shown by plenty of the mega corps(vw diesel, bmw timing chains, toyota pedals, american big three rollover studies)
