Have you noticed any play between the spool and housing once upgraded. I did the same exact upgrade as you but my reel has now developed a very small gap if you will once assembled with a tight cap. This allows line to get behind the spool and can be very frustrating.

The 2nd gen cheap-o "Aventik" centerpin reels use fairly decent stock bearings now. I replaced the stock bearings in a 2nd gen Aventik centerpin with 7x14x5mm ceramic boca ABEC7 bearings. Did not notice much of a difference. I always add a small amount of synthetic reel grease to the pin which seems to help the spool spin more freely.

i get 5 mins on my stock luhr jensen float reel, the blue one. I think you boys overpaying for islander esp if you have to upgrade the bearings. And honestly; having to use loctite to keep bearing in place? shame on you islander. that's like using chewing gum - surely you have better engineer skills.

non boca was about 2 minutes. Prefer the Boca. Make sure you heat up the bearing to melt the lock-tight before you take it out.

Hi mate nice job can I ask you how do you Aline the propeller to pull out the casete for the trolling motor 🤔👌
@FishingWaus
@FishingWaus Жыл бұрын
I take a wire clothes hanger, and straighten it but keep the hook and cut it to size. Then I use wire shrink wrap to cover the metal part of the hook, which I use the adjust the prop. To use it, I pop the motor out of the Hobie latch giving enough room for the clothes hanger to go down the side. Then I use the clothes hanger to align by angling it back then bringing it forward to the prop and pulling it up. The last picture on this page has an image of the modified clothes hanger fishingwa.us/hobie-kayak-trolling-motor/

if you r fly fishing, use a streamer and when it gets 45 degree downstream of you stripe fast, really fast! The water is pretty murky, so they can't see the fly but the might able to sense the movement of the fly when you strip.

My old stomping grounds. I've caught many a nice walleye there. Used to catch a lot off the bridge on crankbaits in the evening before the city decided to put up a high fence on the south side so you couldn't cast out. This was caused due to weekend car cruising kids throwing eggs at the fishermen and the ensuing angry fishermen complaining to the police and city hall. The city decided the answer to the problem was to put up a fence so that it was not fishable from on the S. side of the bridge (best side for crankbaits). This was approx. 1988 and the city never took the fence down. It still stands to this day. But if you walk down under the bridge you can still take some walleyes but it is not near as pleasant or productive as casting from the bridge.
@tldrafaik6144
@tldrafaik6144 Жыл бұрын
Is the south side of the bridge more productive? I saw a guy fishing from the north side on the bridge, he snagged one by the belly and dragged it to shore.
@HungryH1951
@HungryH1951 Жыл бұрын
@@tldrafaik6144 Before they put the high fence on the south side, which is the down current side, it was really good for nice sized walleyes in the evening hours. I caught a lot of 18 inchers there, mostly on crankbaits. Now with the fence you can't cast over it so you have to fish down on the shore which is not the best angle for crankbaits. I have seen quite a few taken on the N. side, mostly down on the shore dropping a spinner worm rig back under the bridge. I have seen this even in daylight. I saw one guy using a lindy jig on the N. side of bridge and he took a 20 incher there. I haven't fished it in years so not sure how the fishing is now. I imagine it can still be pretty good. This used to be my favorite place to fish Walleye off the S. side of the bridge until the city saw fit to put up a fence to keep the fishermen away. Seeing as fishermen spend lots of money in M. Lake I thought that was really weird and a slap in the face to fishermen. We don't need that fence at all.

All the pro's out here and not one, expect for this video, touches on matching your weight to your rod. This is the most critical balance you need to cast a centerpin or a baitcaster at a good distance. Too light and you birds nest nor little distance. The harder you cast the more potential for birds nest. This is not obvious to beginners so kudos to you mentioning it! After your balance is right, then get your feathering technique down with your finger to prevent bird nests.
