Im just started “I and Thou” recently, and I’m curious, in your opinion from your readings & life experiences, whats the difference “You” and “Thou”? Is it just a matter of respect/reverence? Why can we not ascribe that reverence to “You”? I would not be surprised if this point is addressed as I read on in Buber’s work

I think what he meant was intuition is trustable rational thought has been corrupted. When someone saids think rationally and dont react in anger it means dont trust your intuition. Thats wrong. Our intuition kept us safe in caveman times

Can we move on whitout entertaining the narrative that make us who we've become today ? It seems a hard path - because the more you cling to the guilt, the more you are stabbing yourself for the past that can't be erased. Then remerbering that we are always able to become better is really the true salvation by integrating the past but transcending it in the outcome. Thanks for this interview ! I will ponder over this text !
@deep-philosophy Жыл бұрын
Indeed, Florent, as you say, how to move forward beyond the guilt over the past - this is the topic of Buber's essay, and of the interview with Linda. The challenge is how to move forward not by simply forgetting the past, but by a true inner understanding and development. Thanks!

A necessary reflection on our everyday lives. I would add the need to learn to observe and accept ourselves, our whole self, to then be able to observe and accept others. Also that I find that moral has more to do with "rules", whereas ethics belongs to the "grey" zone of morality, meaning the situationes where taking decissions is not as simple as to follow the "rules", but rather the zone of exceptionality. Thank you, Ran.

Well presented and true. I think people who you love and who are gone truly give to you all the time for what they continue create in your heart. Even in a context of your sadness they do not stop if you listen. Yes. Simone Weil is surely right. It is a WONDER which can travel from a person's birth.

If what Peter is saying is that it is difficult to combine philosophy and psychotherapy then I disagree. Mainly because there are numerous examples of psychotherapy being combined with or heavily influenced by philosophy. For example much of modern CBT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Dialectic Behavioural Therapy for example) is heavily influenced by eastern philosophy. CBT in general is modelled after socratic questioning and one important aspect of it is to explore underlying beliefs about the world, much like Socrates did. In general, psychotherapy often deals with your view of the world (or parts of) and the view of yourself in the world, which makes it very hard to separate psychotherapy from also (in some meaning) doing philosophy. On the other hand, if what Peter meant was that it is difficult to combine philosophy and psychotherapy and still be able to distinguish it from doing psychotherapy, I would agree.

I have a question. Can you say me what is philosophy for you and why can't be used for problem solving?
@Slazerable3 жыл бұрын
@@razvanalexandru9219 I'm not sure how philosophical counseling differs from (psychological) counseling. You say your goal is not to make your visitor happy, but what does "expanding their horizonts" ultimately leads to? Misery? What I'm afraid of is that without the proper psyho(patho)logical background, solving any issues - which you unconvincingly claim is not the point - is like shooting in the dark while trying to reinvent the weel. Humans are boring. Their problems are repetitive. Hence, studying existing patterns seems more fruitful to me, essential even. Does philosophical counseling include psychological background?
