This walk is through parts of central Sydney’s Chinatown. Chinatown is located at the Southern end of the Sydney Central Business District and is part of the suburb of Haymarket . The first Chinatown was in the Rocks district known as the Chinese Quarter in the 1860s , by the 1920s Sydney’s Chinatown had migrated over to Campbell Street in Haymarket , in the vicinity of the capitol theatre just off George Street. Greater Sydney Has many Chinese Suburbs / Neighbourhoods including an official Chinatown in Burwood and the largest Chinese suburb being Hurstville in southern Sydney but the Haymarket Neighbourhood is the oldest.

Hello Billy, Drummoyne I've only ever gone past on the bus, till recently where I went to Mcdonalds for dinner. (P.S. don't get the onion rings there). I liked what I saw so I am happy your doing a tour of the area. Its nice to explore this side of town. I do like this with its older factories and shops on the main highway there. I think there are a lot more houses in this area than apartments, although I do like those new ones on the highway that go the whole block. I been to Birkenhead Point but only on the ferry and only to the shopping outlet they have there, its nice to walk around the areas. I find you get a lot more out of walking the areas than if you were doing it by car. I hadn't realised that Birkenhead Point was that close to Victoria Rd till recently. I didn't know there was a pool under the bridge. Is that public? Looks nice from up there. You've done a really nice long walk here I've enjoyed it again. Cheers for now.

@@craigbrown9029 hi Craig - yeah I think I’ll give the onion rings a miss - Drummoyne has a lot to check out including plenty of parks and walks to do so maybe I’ll do a walk from Rozelle and around the Drummoyne shoreline - gets busy around there on the weekend with walkers and joggers and there are also sports fields along the shoreline used for soccer etc. Definitely more houses than apartments - I’m presuming there are pretty tough restrictions on development in that area due to people’s visual views . Some pretty nice homes and buildings around that’s for sure. Yes the swimming pool is public - any one can go , it’s listed as one of the best pools in Sydney because of its location . Just get off at the first bus stop after the bridge . Cheers Craig 🙂🙂

Drummoyne is six kilometres west of the Sydney Central Business District and is the administrative centre for the local government area of the city of Canada Bay. Drummoyne sits on the peninsula between Iron Cove and Five Dock. William Wright, a merchant , whaler and sealer bought land in the northern part of the area in 1853. He named the area after his family home at Drummoyne on Clyde in Scotland , in Gaelic , Drummoyne means flat topped ridge.

I've actually feed the pigeons at that monument in Union Square there. Its a nice place to sit and eat my lunch. This video is 3 years ago so I wasn't here at that time. So its good to see a lot of it is still the same as it was. I like how you've gone around some of the back streets here I haven't had a chance to do a lot of those yet. I was gonna have some lunch at that Quarryman's Hotel there once, till I found out there fish and chips were 28 dollars. (too much for a pensioner). So I went across the road to that little pocket park after getting a sandwich and coffee from the cafe ($13), and sat in the little pocket park and had lunch. One thing I do like though is that there are a lot of nice eateries along Harris Street there. I'm going to try some of them this summer. So its nice to see the suburb like this and thanks again for doing these great walks. Cheers for now.

Thanks for this walk Billy, I really wanted to see what was up and around this area, if there were any shops or parks that would be useful for me. So I like where you've walked in this video cause this is the actual area I want to see, cause its not too far from me now. Hello Billy, Sydenham is a suburb that I've really onlly seen around the station many years ago. So this is a good walk that I will enjoy. I noticed the bakery in the first few minutes looks good and popular. I love big beautiful old trees and that one at 10.07 is really nice. I like there Town Hall building. Also nice to see they have done the station up since I was last there. After watching this it reminded me of how close the flight path was when I lived in Stanmore, so its probably even closer at Sydenham, very loud isn't it. However its still one of the perks of living in the city. I also notice how many new skate parks are popping up around the city, which is a good thing keeps 'em off the streets. Mind you I think council should clean them once in a while! but that probably costs them too much money. All in all its a pretty good suburb, its getting pricey now though. The station has had a lot of work done over the years so it’s much better now for sure. The skate park is great , it was just an empty plot with over grown grass for years - once had lovely old terraces on it that were knocked down - the steps to some of them still remain along the foot path next to the skate park. There has been a few new skate parks built over the past few years including this one and one at Glebe and the big one at Sydney Park and a few more smaller ones around , they all get a lot of use so it’s a good investment . Sydenham is located 8 kilometres from the Sydney Central Business District and is part of the local government area of the inner west council. Sydenham is bordered by Marrickville, St Peter’s and Tempe . Sydenham developed after the Illawarra train line came through to Hurstville in the late 1800s. Sydenham was named after Sydenham , a suburb of London because of the similarities to their close proximity to the city and a railway junction. The railway station is a junction for the Illawarra line, airport and south line , the Bankstown line including the metro. There are bus stops next to the station that also serve areas off the train line. Sydenham borders the princes Highway on the east side and Marrickville to the west and is a short walk to the Marrickville Shopping District.

@@craigbrown9029 I think they are going to change the laws with the e bikes soon and make them designated to certain spots - some cities do it that way and some don’t - it will be interesting to see what they come up with as I’m sure it will work well in some places and not so well in other parts of the city. In my area a lot of the kids just use them to get home from school but use their own bikes the rest of the time . The companies that run them are the worst ones as the drop bunches of bikes off in really stupid places with out much consideration to anyone - let alone if some one is on a wheel chair or mobility scooter etc . What I find amusing is that right across the street not even 40 metres away is a whole vacant area that could house them in front of the Fish Market Light Rail. They could fit a 150 bikes there, but no they have to put them right in other peoples way. Harris St I've walked a few times, however John St and behind which you cover in this video I haven't but am meaning to. I live just behind them down the stairs. Thats sort of the reason I haven't gone and explored that part of Pyrmont yet. So I'm really glad to see the layout from this walk. I wanted to see if there were any shops or cafes on that side. Oh look further into the video you found the stairs that leads to my place at 30.45. You can see how steep they are. Hello Billy, I used to walk these streets all the time, especially when I lived in Flinders St, Darlinghurst. Surry Hills I find is kind of a weird suburb, I could never work out where it started from or ended at. Like its very close to the city, also Redfern, Darlinghurst, Wooloomooloo or waterloo. Its quite a big suburb. Also one of my favourites. Yet again another pricey suburb. Piperlouise used to love going to the parks in this area. A lot of the times when I took her for walks, I would let her choose the direction we took and she would often go through these streets of Surry Hills. (I think she liked it too.) Its a very well established suburb, I love the age of a lot of the trees there. If you take particular little streets in Surry Hills you'll find a lot of little parks nestled at the end of the streets, which are great for people watching and doggy connections. I lived in Albion Street for 10 months back in 1998. Its a great leafy suburb. I used to walk around all the different streets, Its very leafy. Mary Street I used quite a lot because thats my mothers name. Its been awhile since I've done the inner Streets of Surry Hills, but I walked it many times and all over. I've been to every street you walked on in this video and its great to see that its looking as gorgeous as ever. Its a suburb people really take pride in I think. Its got great shops and lots of community centres for many projects. Nice to see that a lot of it hasn't changed however there are a few new apartment blocks but not as many high rises in this suburb. I also noticed that they have widened a few of the sidewalks as this suburb gets very congested with pedestrians sometimes. So because I didn't drive this particular suburb was a lot of the times a walk through to get to Redfern or Darlinghurst or the city for me. So I would take many different streets just for a look. Sorry I'm a bit chatty today, I like to smoke a "j or two, whilst I'm watching and sometimes it really evokes the deeper memories that I have of the place." and this particular walk really reminds of early years when I first arrived in Sydney. So thanks Billy for reminding me of my great times. Also I find there are a lot of short cuts to other suburbs through this suburb. So as you can see Surry Hills is in my top 5. I love this suburb, although I don't go there as much as I used to since moving over to Pyrmont. Cheers for now.

I was living in Canberra at time it happened. The news and newspapers carried the stories for months after that as it was one of Australia's first mass killings. It was so sad at the time and everytime I go to Strathfield now I always take the time to sit in the quadrangle just outside the train station to reflect and say a liitle prayer for those who were involved. Let me tell you, back in 1999 when I was living in Ashfield, I was working in Paddington at the old Scottish Hospital, which was no longer in use and they were just renting out the old kitchen (its where we did meals on wheels type of cooking). Anyways I'd get up at 4 in the morning and be down at Ashfield station by quarter to five, caught the train to Newtown and then I'd walk to work via King St, Broadway, Central, Oxford St and Darlinghurst Rd via the wall (is what they use to call it). Then down through Green Park go down behind St Vincent Hospital over the bridge to the end of the street turn left go down about 100 meters to the Scottish Hospital. I did that for about eight months. I'd get there about 6.30 quarter to 7, just before I had to start work at 7. I lost a lot of weight and built up my legs doing that. Wow to be young again. I used to really enjoy walking that route and this walk that you are doing reminds me of that period. Thank you again. A lot of things have changed since then. A lot of the times I would just go to Marrickville library and spend an afternoon or just hanging out in some of the cafes around the area. I still go to Marrickville Rd today cause thats where Hearing Australia moved to. So I have to go there every so often to get new batteries or fix them if something was wrong with them. What I like about Enmore Rd and surrounding areas is that it all still looks the same. Just maybe some different shops. Australia Post Enmore used to be on the corner of Enmore, and Stanmore Rds. @@craigbrown9029 yep , most people think this area is Glebe - I used to live in Glebe not far from when I started this video and the lines of where one suburb ends and the next starts is sometimes confusing to many . What I do is use google maps , put suburb name in and it shows me where the borders of each neighbourhood are, that way I don’t end up saying I’m in a spot that I’m not - although I did that a bit when I first started. It’s really surprising how many areas are not part of where people think they are. Forest lodge is a great neighbourhood with so many great old buildings and streets. Thanks again Craig Appreciate the comments. 🙂

Hello Billy, Auburn is a suburb I only ever by passed on the train. Funny though if I had known just how big the shopping precinct was there I may have had a closer look. It looks great these days with all the new highrise apartments and shopping areas. I never really had a need to go there as I didn't know anyone from the area. Its another one of Sydney's suburbs that has really come into the 21st century. Thanks for the walk around and your time. I've enjoyed the walk. Cheers till next time.

@@craigbrown9029 Auburn is definitely deceiving if you just see it from the train .- loads of shops and eateries , there is also a big Costco not to far away from the CBD area so I’m sure that brings in a few folks . It’s pretty easy to get around and has lots of spots to sit and chill . This place is going to get really big I feel as it’s already becoming more densely populated each year with a lot of new buildings going up. The way I see it Craig is that if you don’t have reason to go somewhere then more the reason to go - that way you’ll be more surprised by what you find. Cheers Craig Stay well 🙂

Hello Billy, Wow they have really put some money into this suburb those sidewalks look much better than when I last visited this suburb, again way back when. It was a very easy suburb to walk to from Parramatta. I never got off at the Harris Park train station, I had always walked from Parramatta or when I walked back from Granville. Its great to see this update cause it has been a long time since I've been here. Cheers for now.

@@craigbrown9029 you’re not wrong Craig - the place looks good - I like how they’ve turned typical homes on a typical old style street into a food street. Looks great at night with all the lights . Some great food spots and good Indian grocery shops that I’ve used myself for a few things . The train stations between parramatta and Harris park must be some of the quickest stops out west . I might do a Harris park to Granville walk like you used to do one day. Cheers Craig Stay well 🙂

Hello Billy, Back when I first came to Sydney, I was a huge train fan. (we only had buses in Canberra). So on my days off I would go on what I now call my train to anywhere and nowhere days. I've done this trip your on now many times, I'd sometimes go all the way to Newcastle, just for the fun of it. Although again not for a long time now. This line I always thought has the nicest views and stations. Thanks for the down memory lane again. Cheers for now.

It’s almost like being on a tourist train when you’re on the northern line with such great views and well kept historical train stations . Thanks again Craig. Stay well. 🙂

Hello Billy. Chatswood I used to visit on my days off, way back in the 00's, I liked to go there because I liked the shopping precinct (I thought it was huge) so I'd go visit for a few hours and walk around just like you've done here, but about 15 years ago now. So its good to see your updated version. Cause I never drove, I was a walker and public transport taker. So I'd see a lot more than If I was in a car. I never went far outside the shopping area, its nice to see how well established this suburb is. Its also still as busy as ever, it was like this 15 years ago as well. Its got some very nice houses and apartments in this suburb too, but alas another pricey suburb. That park you walked through felt really tranquill and the mural was well done as well. Really nice. I will say this about Sydney though, "we have a lot of shops" Some of those new high rises in Chatswood CBD were just starting to be built the last time I visited the area. Its nice to see them finished, the suburb looks really great. I'll give it an eight out of ten. Cheers for now.

(but worth it) I'd live there if I could afford it. Kirribilli has a beautiful library building, I love all those old buildings, especially the ones that were built with style. Kirribilli house of course is always worth a look, it always reminds of The Lodge in Canberra for some reason. Anyway I really enjoyed the walk around with you again. On another note I've also discovered just how much content you've posted. Its gonna take me a while to get through them so hang in there I'll eventually watch them all. Hello Billy, Town Hall has always been my most favourite suburb of Sydney, I always go there, in fact I was just there last Monday Morning. I believe in my opinion that the St Andrew's Catherdral is one of Sydney's best historical buildings we have. It stands so majestically tall. Although I've only ever seen it from the outside I've never been in. Of cause walking through Hyde Park hasn't changed neither has William St. Everytime I always go past all those eateries on Stanley Street. always popular with a lot of people around and a great place to eat. I also love how beautifully Darlinghurst area has grown. Its looking very established now. I used to walk around these streets many times when I worked between Kings Cross and Oxford Street. Its all pretty much the same but a lot more cleaner for some reason. Its is also still a very pricey area to live. I had to work two jobs. One thing that I always thought that was missing on William St. was a decent supermarket, when I lived around the area I always had to go to Edgecliffe. I think there maybe a Woolies Metro there somewhere now but I'm not sure. Anyway by the looks of the Kings Cross area now I don't think I can even afford to sniff the place. It looks very pricey indeed. Still this area is one of the great areas of Sydney in my opinion. Cheers for now.

@@craigbrown9029 hi Craig , yep St Andrew’s is an amazing building with a massive amount of skill gone into the construction of it like many of the great older buildings in Sydney - the Churches are definitely amongst the most impressive. There is a Woolworths Metro at 75 Crown Street Woolloomooloo Just off William Street - gets pretty busy around lunch time with all the local workers . Stanley Street was/is Sydney’s original little Italy , there are still a bunch of Italian cafes , restaurants etc there . It was where Italian migrants first moved to in the 1950s and 60s before dispersing out further to the inner west etc. It’s a great little spot . William Street still looks pretty average as usual but it will be interesting to see if much changes over time. Cheers Craig. 🙂

This walk begins at St .Andrew’s Cathedral on George Street in the Sydney Central Business District before heading through to skim the edge of the northern middle part of Hyde park before going onto William Street near the museum of natural history then walking through parts of Darlinghurst then back onto William Street Before ending Up at the beginning of Kings Cross on Darlinghurst Road. Construction of St Andrew’s Cathedral began in 1837 and was opened and ready for service in 1868 making it the oldest Cathedral in Australia. The church is the seat of the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney. The architecture is of the Gothic revival style.

Thanks Billy. Can’t remember the last time I was in Revesby. Early 80s I reckon, in another life when I worked for the NAB! The NAB use to store all old documents (cheques, deposit slips, etc) in a building somewhere in Revesby. They’d keep them for 7 years then they’d be shredded. I forget where now but I went there once or twice way back when. Was that Revesby Workers Club about 10 minutes from the end? That was THE club back in the day. All the overseas cabaret artists use to play there. Cheers. Steve

Revesby is a Suburb in the south - west of Sydney located 22 kilometres from the Sydney Central Business District and is part of the local government area of Canterbury- Bankstown. Revesby was named in 1913 in honour of Sir Joseph Banks , the botanist who sailed with Captain James Cook when he reached the east coast of Australia in 1770. Banks had inherited his father’s estate of Revesby Abbey in Lincolnshire England , so he was known as the Squire of Revesby. George Johnston , an officer of the Royal Marines who had arrived on the first fleet was granted land in this area in 1840 and his wife Esther Julian , who had arrived as a convict was granted 570 acres on 1st November 1813. The first school opened as Bankstown South in 1896 , now known as Revesby Public School. The railway station opened on 21 December 1931 . The local post office opened in 1955. You can get to Revesby by train on the East Hills line.

All those new buildings, not to mention its looking a lot cleaner as well. It looks like they are going to put new apartments on the old Bourbon and Beefsteak Hotel. I used to sit in the park just behind the fountain a lot. I also used to walk down through Rushcutters Bay a lot also, (I used to daydream a lot about making a lot of money just to buy one of those gorgeous apartments on the waterfront in the Bay area. Alas hasn't happened so far). I was always going to the Rushcutters Bay Park on summer afternoons and read a lot. Also used it as a thoroughfare to go to Edgecliffe shopping mall. Its nice to see Rushcutters Bay is still exactly the same except the greenery is a lot more lusher, which only adds to its allurement. I like that suburb very much. Its great to walk through it again with you, its been awhile, maybe 18 years since I been down that way. Thanks for the memories again. Cheers till the next one.
