I wondered why your garage looked different in these older videos. As a fellow midwesterner I understand why you moved to Florida, too humid for me though. Great idea with the bed liner.

The metal in a coat hanger is usually of too inconsistent of quality, making it unreliable for welding and potentially leading to poor weld quality, burn-through, and safety concerns; it's best to use dedicated welding rods designed for the specific welding process you are using.. so that's why using those is bad 😆
@jayinmi37062 күн бұрын
I've also heard that the coating on hangers can be a problem. Didn't stop me from trying it, but I probably won'tt doo it again. I did clean the coating off at least.
@LTscustomgarage2 күн бұрын
@jayinmi3706 im sure they have a rust proofing coating of some sort that effects the weld. The extra mig wire twisted together works pretty good.

Nice! I’ve owned a 58 ragtop Beetle for 25 years. I could never own one without it now. People always think they will leak. I’ve driven during storms and not a drop of water comes in. One thing I that might be different about the VW design is that the top pulls down to the roof as it is closed towards the front. My roof also has a raised lip pressed into it at the front of the hole. But, it stays dry because the water just goes down the sides of the top into the rain gutters. This looks like a pretty good kit, because they have to replicate all the added structures that an OE rag has. It’s just as complicated as any add on kit. My car also requires holes in the roof, multiple track pieces, plastic sliders, etc. What I like about your kit is that it was already curved. THAT is what keeps water out. Also, the hook and handle design is exactly like my car. I grew up in the 80’s and my dad owned a Chevy Luv for the entire decade. Lots of memories
@LTscustomgarage2 күн бұрын
Right on! Love an old beetle with a ragtop. Legacy makes a quality top for sure. They definitely do their research on what you tell them it's going on and make the parts accordingly.

As a Ford guy who's into really old steel and unconventional engines, this particular episode didn't have much for me. However... I'm REALLY digging this project and your channel. I like your overall style & presentation, and as for the project, well, a 70s Chevy Luv is not at all something I would expect to like, but I really like the slammed stance, suicide doors, & 3x2 setup.
