This is simply the best rhythm games video I've ever seen, both production wise and meme-wise. Despite playing rhythm games for years, I've learned a lot of terms from that video, and it is perfect to introduce someone to any game

what i love about the BFKB is how easy speed becomes on it, fingers bounce off so well on those switches that hitting long speed sections or long streams becomes a breeze, i haven't had a wooting myself though, only tried one at COE where rapid trigger actually screwed me up more than it helped me, cuz it was so sensitive i thought the keyboard was doubletapping, however it was just rapid trigger being enabled

One of the best cases as to why Geometry dash is a rhythm based platformer, not a rhythm game. Sightreading, tech and, choke are literally the only terms in this video I have heard being used in the gd community. Though to be honest I don’t see Frame perfects, straightfly, flow gameplay, or anything else showing up in most rhythm games.

An easily misused term for rhythm games is the flow of a song which is a more universal meaning for sight reading a chart and means how easy someone could sight read the chart and how well the notes are in rhythm to the beat of the song I don’t see many people use the term let alone correctly.

Another term you missed is mindblock. A mindblock is when you have the technical skill to read and play something, but something gets messed up in your mind and you strugggle to read/hit that specifoc pattern. This can happen in any game, and is a general failure of the pattern recognition part of your brain. Mindblocks are typically but not always limited to a specific pattern within a single chart, with players often being able to play that same pattern fine in other contexts. This often prompts players to apply modifiers that rearrange that chart to try to remove the association of the mindblock with a specific part of that song when possible.

Hey, really nice video, as a sort of beginner rhythm game player, I'm glad that I get most of them. Though, I'm curious, regarding chokes, I've seen people (usually in the Phigros community since that's where I'm active) call chokes not FCs ruined by a miss at the end, but generally either FCs ruined by just one bad/miss, or APs ruined by just one good or whatever is the second best judgement in a given RG is. Is it the Phigros community specifically using the term wrong, or is that simply another way people use it?
@Bobbias5 күн бұрын
Choke is such a general term that it's meaning in each community may vary. In stepmania and related communities there's the term flag/black flag, which refers to not breaking combo, but missing a perfect full combo (all perfect or marvelous) by a single great. Similarly it can be used to refer to missing a marvelous full combo by a single perfect. A "true black flag" indicates that note was the last more of the chart. Those conditions could be more generally referred to choking a PFC/MFC, but choke implies it could be a miss or a good instead of just a great/perfect, or that it could have been multiple misses/bad judgements in a cluster, as sometimes you can't immediately recover from some mistakes.

@@Bobbias So I suppose pretty much the only thing that the term has in common with its definitions across different communities is "i played well generally over the chart but this STUPID little moment where i didn't"?

As a vsrg player myself of over 20 years, I've never heard the term soflan. I'm not sure whether that says something about me, or you though. Probably me. Typically I would use the term gimmick charts, although since my main game has been osu!mania for the past decade+ I would now generally call them SV charts. Side note: SV derives from the term Slider Velocity from osu std, because scroll speed changes were created with the same interface as slider speed changes in std, and stored in the beatmap file in the same format as well. Anyome who calls it Scroll Velocity is wrong and does not know their history.

Patterns don't revolve solely around 4k stepmania terminology. That's just sad. No respect for bms/7k. Rolls, denims, sof-lan, earth power (it's not general skill, but rather a combination of stamina/being able press the keys as hard as possible without lifting your hands).

@tzechi6 күн бұрын
in a sense, yeah
@Bobbias5 күн бұрын
SV is a slightly more general term which also refers to the speed changes themselves. Soflan seems to refer specifically to charts which use SVs as a gimmick, such as Death Moon from o2jam, and Batting Show Perfect Version or Shun no Shifudo o Ikashita Kare Fumi Paeria's SV difficulty (aka the octopus map).

@@Fafr they should be??? you do stuff to tthe beat, jsab and pa are bullet hell rhythm games and gd is a platformer rhythm game
@Fafr5 күн бұрын
@@_SparkHere In JSaB and PA you don't do anything to the song unless a gimmick is made where the player would have to dash in time, which wouldn't make it a rhythm game, but rather, a level with an element of that. And that's only applicable to PA, too In Geometry Dash, doing things to the song is not the focus at all, which is especially seen if you look at pretty much most of the popular levels. Sync is mostly done for the visuals, the gameplay usually has very little of it. The main levels don't do that either, as most of the gameplay is not connected to the song. GD itself classifies itself as "music-based", not as a rhythm game, and the community agrees too, as pretty much everyone there also says that GD is not a rhythm game

Another "synonym for _chart"_ for ya! _Heaven Studio_ (rip in dmca, but they're planning a Copyright Free™ comeback) refers to them as _remixes,_ after the main-series levels where multiple rhythm games get mashed up (which is... basically exactly what you do in HS). "Charts" are still used interchangeably, but they're officially called "remixes" even if it's a single rhythm game for the entire song. Also, the series term for a Full Clear is a "Perfect" regardless of timing accuracy (though later games added a meter to show accuracy rating at the end, along with a separate "No-Miss!" judgement for an actual FC). "Go for a Perfect!" just means "FC the chart within three attempts".

Another term we use in ADOFAI (A dance of fire and ice) is "Pseudo", since there are no double notes there, people put two notes really close so youcan press two keys at once and get it as a "pseudo doublenote"

Question: would something like Lockstep from Rhythm Heaven count as a long jack? It's basically just one jack through the entire chart. (well there are some offbeats but yknow)
@Niemerald6 күн бұрын
Personally I would consider it just a fast tempo you have to tap to, since its not like you're vibrating your hand right on the touch screen to hit every note

@@sullivanbell2397 well, not really. the term jack is usually reserved for 8ths while lockstep is 4ths throughout (save for the transitions). id say it's generally too slow to be considered a jack as well
