Hi, I've watched some videos showing removal of the BIOS chip before reading and reprogramming, then putting it back in the motherboard, but other videos doing it as you do in situ with a clip. I have an HP 840 G6 which I need to remove the BIOS password on (reprogram it) - can I do it on the motherboard do you think? thanks for any guidance, and for this video.

Would this method also work on a W540? From what I've read they have a similar motherboard, but i cant find any detailed coreboot documentation on the W540.

Hi, I need help with my laptop. Its an hp pavilion gaming 15 I5-10300h with intel h10 optane 512 ssd. I had issues with 3.3 v power supply of the board. So i took it to a local repair shop, he replaced my bios chip which had a different serial number. So what happends next day my laptop with stop booting, I can still go into bios run hardware checks, but it wont boot anything like usb, usb cd drive or ssd . And it has to do something with bios, If i download bios bin from hp and write it to bios, i think it should work.

Thanks for the great video!! Few questions on my end: Which one of these should be enabled on the modem (Router 1 in the video) DHCP Server, NAT, VLAN ID, Firewall and which one of these should be enabled on the Router 2?

Glad you enjoyed the video! As for your question, once you put the original router (router 1) into bridge mode, it essentially defaults to/relies on your new router (router 2) for almost all smart routing functions. So any of those settings should be configured on the second router you plug in. Sometimes the router will actually gray out any options it doesn't need when in bridge mode, but not always. As for which of those SHOULD be turned on, if that's what you're asking, that depends on your needs and your network. Usually all of those are turned on or configured to some extent. I would simply look up that specific model and see what best practice is. Or you can try and copy what settings your old router had setup before you switch it.

@@DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast So putting the modem/router to bridge mode, then connecting a router in router mode with an ethernet cable, I could configure a PPPoE connection on the router and it works. However, I'm having difficulty understanding how what's happening at the modem-router, does it have a public IP address? Does it create a subnet of itself? Should I turn NAT on here? It looks like the modem-router continues to create its own network and if I connect to the router via wifi and try to access the interface of the modem-router, it doesn't work. Is this a normal behavior?
@DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast
@DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast 15 күн бұрын
@DenizDorukNuhoglu All settings should default to the new router hooked up. In bridge mode it acts like a dummy switch essentially, simply passes the data/info received to the second router, if it's fighting you something isn't correct. I would look up that specific router and how it functions in bridge mode.. It may be that you have to turn certain settings off so it doesn't conflict. It'll retain a private IP, and will communicate with your ISP/second router, but that's about it.

Just doing a quick search, it looks like that router has some issues bridging, as well as cell carrier routers being a bit wonky with how they handle it. There’s no need to modify the programmer-it’s already designed to work perfectly, albeit at a slower speed. One key concept to remember is that amperage, not voltage, is what damages ICs. Voltage alone cannot cause harm without sufficient current to back it up. If you had checked the current draw of the programmer during idle and active programming, you’d find it ranges from just 0.5mA to 1mA maximum. Such low current levels are incapable of causing damage. Additionally, the so-called "voltage mod" is entirely unnecessary. The programmer is designed to automatically adjust the voltage according to the specifications of the IC you select. For those working with 1.8V BIOS ICs, the proper solution is to use the appropriate adapter to step down the voltage-not because of any risk of damage, but because a stable signal is required for reliable read/write operations. Attempting to program a 1.8V IC at 3.3V will lead to signal instability, not physical damage. Unfortunately, many people have implemented this pointless voltage mod, spreading misinformation and encouraging others to follow suit. This programmer is an excellent tool for beginners and has served countless users well before upgrading to faster, more advanced, and expensive tools. Modifications to it are unnecessary and counterproductive.

What are the differences between a T400, T500 and W500?
@soupofundeniablewisdom1629
@soupofundeniablewisdom1629 6 күн бұрын
The T series is considered the Flagship models, while the W series was the Workstation ones. The first number defines the screen's size (The T400 has a 14 inch screen, the T500 and W500 have a 15 inch screen). With that in mind, the X200 has a 12 inch screen, and the X300 contains a 13 inch screen. The W500 is intentionally made for heavy workloads, so it comes with a dedicated GPU, and Stronger CPUs, along with stronger cooling to keep the machine working at the expense of battery life. The T500 consumes less power, and runs cooler.

no it can be a desktop, laptop, and if it is running windows or linux or any linux version it literally does not matter. Your second question I don't understand at all but flashrom is running as a program inside of the terminal all you have to do is hook up to the pc you are flashing, you will need to specify where to place certain files and where for it to take and use the bios you want. Doing this is confusing the first time but extremely easy the second time and beyond. I was successful doing it to my first machine, I've done 4 now

@escapetherace1943 no worries, I was able to do alot more research into the process and understand it better. @@mitchclover258 ah yes, simply download flashrom, follow your guide because it differs between models you are corebooting as you probably need to build files, flash and enjoy. At first I thought it was just the top half but bottom is also like that, looks like it had 50KG on top with something under the middle and it's just changed shape over time with heat and pressure on the top though maybe its supposed to look like that and it being dropped at some point just making it look worse?

@DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast yeah works fine, battery only last about 20 minutes and screen is super dull but that's pretty normal for machine that age, at least I now know for sure it's not supposed to be like that, when the board was out of the machine it look fine other then little corrosion on a part that doesn't affect functionality In saying that given the logo of the company that was on the old bios image and wear, I'd say it was a field machine for that network company before they got bought out. So if I can find a machine with better chassis that has failed GPU or something that would be nice, unlikely I'll get that lucky as they rare in my country

I made this video out of an abundance of caution and to highlight an interesting product that supports more voltages than the original CH341A. This position that the voltage is too high is not something I made up but is the stance of the Libreboot project and many other smart people in the community. Lately, a different view point popped up saying that the CH341A will automatically lower the voltage when flashing. I plan on testing out these claims to verify if they are true or not. If you watch my previous videos you can see I've successfully used the original CH341A many times and either ignored or down played the voltage issue. As I did more and more flashing my stance slowly changed.

You got it wrong. It is totally normal to a voltage drop when load is applied. There does not have to be any automation for that to happen. For example a conventional transformer will have very variable output voltage depending on the load applied. If you measure a transformer output with no load and a load you will see two very different voltages. This is very basics of physics and electronics.
