topic suggestion: what if the US had been given independence without war?

I totally disagree with this video in assuming that Communism would take over the world without America. Communism did not exist until AFTER the US existed and I am not sure it would have come to flourish without the US. I think this video is underestimating how much the US has influenced around the world in its short existence. For example it is total nonsense to assume we would even have had 2 world wars if the US did not exist, we may however have had some European countries come to dominate others for a united European super-power, which would no doubt have been bad as well, but that is hard to say since no European power ever became that powerful before the technological advances which to a large degree was created by the US. So it is impossible to say what the world would really look like, I think the best indication is to compare what the world looked like before the US was founded in the 18th century and compare that to now. And I think it is clear that there is a lot of good and bad both which may never have happened then. But to say the the Soviet Union would have emerged as a super-power after world war too is just utter nonsense! For there would have been no Soviet Union or World War 2 without the US. Remember the US along with UK and others created the scenario which promoted World War 2 because of how it dealt with World War 1. Without the US. World War 1 may not have been either, or if it did...it would have had a different outcome and so World War 2 would not have happened and Communist Russia and China would not likely have happened either.

If there was no US and the US never existed then the Materialistic technology direction would not have been exploited as much as it has, Korea would be just one country and not be split in two. Hiroshima and Nagasaki would not have been bombed and many people would have lived and been FAR healthier but have far less tools to combat unhealthy living with. The planet would have been in FAR better shape too, with less pollution, global warming and no pandemic. We would not have been taught about Dinosaurs, may not have landed on the moon and may not be taught Evolution theory in schools. There would be many religions like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons which may not have existed. No US means no Hollywood, no McDonalds, no Nukes and no insane amount of military spending. There also would likely not have been any Communism as this to a large degree was a response to Capitalism, and Capitalism may not have existed or escalated much either though it was actually invented in England. The question is really what would this do to the rest of the world. Honestly the best indication of that is by looking at the rest of the world BEFORE the US was founded. I think you would have just as much evil and good in the world without the US, but it would not have become as extreme as it has become. If the US had not existed there would have been less good and less bad in the world, we would have escalated to the place we are today regardless I think, but at a much slower rate. The US has been good for a very few select people, but been bad for a larger amount of people all over. The US has caused the information age to go much faster and further than any other country has before, and this has increased both the good and bad information, and increased the tools good and bad people have had to do good and bad things. But as sadly humans throughout history long before the US was founded have shown the bad tend to be more prevalent than the good, so what the US has really done more than anything is given the bad and evil more tools to do bad and evil with, and that is obviously not good. Would the world be a better place without the US? Yeah I think it would...for no US would likely also have meant that Russia and China would not have become a super-power and that would have been better for the world too. But it would not have made too much difference in the long run.

Interesting to think about, but I think it is a bit of an idealistic view of French colonial rule. In real history, France's colonies had to fight for their independence much more than the British ones, and the French did not want to give up (Haiti, Algeria, Vietnam, etc...). And even today a lot of French Africa is bound to France economically, which has led to these juntas seizing power in the name of finally expelling the French (I'm oversimplifying here I know). So I don't agree that the world would be 'more' multicultural if the French had won. In some ways it could even be more divided.

For starters, the world would have lost the benefits from the thousands of major American inventions, scientific advances and innovative products. A very non-exhaustive list of American inventions includes the polio vaccine, light bulb, telephone, birth control pill, camera, television, airplane, semiconductors, personal computers, the internet, gene sequencing, air conditioning and numerous agriculture and food-related innovations without which the world could not sustain its current population, and many many more. Of course, had the US never existed, other countries would eventually invent most of these inventions but without the US these inventions would come later in time some much later. Ditto for the Panama Canal and for institutions such as the UN that America originally proposed and funded.
