Over the last 45 years I've scratch built two of these. Both; beautiful, fast and smooth planes to fly. If you can cope with planes that can eat up sky rapidly Atlases are a joy. However if your going to enter a modern f3a comp. a classic model won't hack it even if it looks far better. I agree some of the best looking model planes come from around the 60s and 70s.
@daviddou14082 ай бұрын
Beautiful and smooth to fly and will cut through turbulence better than any of your modern foamies or constant chord setups. Fast to fly but can be slowed down if you don't want to fly a full schedule and just want to cruise with a few lazy manoeuvres. Relatively simple to build and as mentioned by Phil F Outerzone is a trove for plans of these craft and anything else you can think of.

Phil, I am looking to do a similar project to yours to install on my PC-21 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6DFn6umaLeZpJo&ab_channel=NSpagnuolo), although I saw some Arduino projects, it seems your's is simpler and does all I expect to do. Therefore, I have two questions (or requests,if you will) Can you share the hardware and circuit diagram you used? Where did you get the sound files from? I searched for two weeks and I was not able to get a single-engine turboprop sound (I understand you are using the twin-turbo, but maybe the same source may have a single engine). Thank you.
@PhilFord518 ай бұрын
I also had a single turbo prop sound but using my audio editor I overlaid it again with a slight doppler effect to give the impression of a twin. It was fairly successful. However, I acquired another sound sample from a relative in Canada of a Twin Otter starting up at Vancouver Harbour. This allowed me to play around with the samples to the best effect. Limited in reality by the small speakers but it is the best I could get without increasing weight into the model. Of course it is also subject to scale. I did a similar thing with my B25 Mitchell video kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vIpn6gmLiYitE where I added sound samples with a doppler effect. The module is from Mr R C World online.

Thank you for your response, Phil. What I am looking for is what it seems was the first file you were working with, which is the single-engine turboprop sound, Can you share that with me, as well as your circuit schematics? @@PhilFord51

The module is factory created with surface mount tech. 30mm square. It is supplied by Mr R C World who you can find online. You can download from my website here: wimbornemac.org/club-info/download/category/5-open-tx The file will be available for two weeks @@richardraimondo612

They are crowd pleasers! The Magnum R's were really quick, but they were never anywhere as quick as the manufacturer claimed! On the West.50 it's a 165mph or so machine, and mine was a hair faster on a Jett .50. No field reports have ever surfaced of one of these doing 200mph+ as claimed. I had the throws too high on my first launch and tested the trouser clips until it got settled down. I ran the West .50 on an 8.125x9 clipped pylon prop and an open MAC pipe, whereas the Jett was with the stock tuned muffler and normally an 8.8x9. The main issue I ever had was that - for me - yellow and black is a lousy color scheme for visibility at any distance, and those small black and white checkered panels on the bottom may as well be grey for all they do.

Camera footage was rubbish. This was early days and the Immersion 25mw video TX to little power. There was also some interference from the ESC. Later the Video TX was replaced with a Matek at 200 mw and the ESC suppressed by a capacitor. The Ranger is still flying today but with a new RunCam Eagle 2

The story behind this clip is that after probably 40 years of being at work for half day a least and now a newly retired man tasked with a simple job of vacuuming the carpet comes up against something never encountered before so it is not all his fault. You will note that I said 40 years of nearly half a day at work. It was when I was working from the mid -sixties onwards. 8am to 6pm, five days a week and sometimes compulsory Sat morning overtime. Not like now though for most - 4 1/2 day week 7 hour day. Phew! Call that a hards work? I will mention though before any more comments that the NHS staff still work 12 hours shifts

Evo Jet 180 Jet engine, FTC bubble trap, Festo fittings all round and Uni Lights pro lighting system that gives the model outstanding scale presence. Dry weight of the model is 19.6 Kg. Holds 5 litres of kerosene and 600ml of smoke oil which lasts 40 seconds when switched on

Hello, Thank you for your message. I'm just finishing the same, but in Italian colors. JetsMunt M210TS turbine, Night Fly lighting. Everything redesigned to electricity = no air control. UAT Air Trap High flow. 6 liters of kerosene and no smoke yet. Redesigned flaps. I cut off the top, the hinges down. Large deviation and area. I hope it will be slower to land. Dry weight 19.4 kg. Where is your CG?
