I remember that not long after this 147, in that same season, Kirk was on for a 150+ after potting a free ball with 15 reds still on the table. I think it broke down after 10 reds plus the free ball had been potted. Great days for snooker back then.

This was certainly a great maximum break which took 12 minutes 48 seconds, which can be described as decently quick. However when compared to Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 147 at the Crucible (World Championships) there is a monumental difference! Ronnie cleaned up in 5 minutes 8 seconds, which is significantly less than half the time of Kirk’s maximum. That shows the incredible genius of Ronnie, he is simply in a class of his own, and is the greatest of all time!

Beautiful looking snooker table. The natural wood colour against the baize. Oh yes, I remember the break as a kid. Great times.

I remember watching this as a kid on our black and white tv. It was a disaster.

What makes this 147 so special is that Kirk Stevens is such a maverick player. An ordinary guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. Such a lovely guy who even hugs the referee. They don't produce these kind of characters anymore

This was one of the best Snooker matches I have ever seen, made all the more special by this incredible 147 maximum break by Kirk Stevens. Kirk was at his best from 1980 to 1984 which coincided with the golden era of the sport. Kirk and Jimmy were both worthy of being World Champions.

My mates claim to fame was spilling a full pint of beer down the back of kirks white jacket . It was on the back of a chair , he was doing an Exhibition night in Newcastle at a Working Mens Club , i will never forget it . Everyone falling about laughing ! . . . 😂😂😂

Sad to think the lad was off his tits when playing and probably never remembered any of it .
