Build a footbridge
@neiltonks4627
@neiltonks4627 2 ай бұрын
This is very controversial locally. The problem with closing the crossing is that it would deprive the local people of access to a stretch of the river Trent which has been a popular place to go for hundreds of years. There must be another solution, surely?
@robertbate5790
@robertbate5790 2 ай бұрын
The crossing is perfectly safe. Its the idiots using it that are the problem. If the crossing is well used maybe a footbridge would be a better option. From the camera no signage is visible. Perhaps train operated locks on the gates could be used, or pedestrian stop go lights at the gate. I also commented on this same clip somewhere that the trains give no warnings either. Are there any 'Whistle' boards? Added to these, the fence is quite high, presumably for security, so no one can see the trains approaching, and the banks are so overgrown the trains hit the sides. A deplorable situation. Considering todays highly aware heath and safety legislation I'm suprised some one isn't prosecuted for negligence. Local concillor or MP might look into this. I must say though some of the behaviour also needs looking into. I mean a beauty shoot on a high speed rail line, I adk you ???? Ex BR man

Seems like it would be fairly easy to install electromechanical interlocking on the crossing gates to prevent them being opened while trains are approaching, and also including red/green signals. I wonder why Network Rail have gone straight for closure rather than considered this option? ...Oh yes, cost! Let's inconvenience the genral public rather than putting our hand in our pocket.

I'll leave it for you to figure out why gates that lock automatically are a bad idea. I think you'll agree it's a very bad idea.

But up to now there have been no deaths here? That's a bit like saying Every high street needs closing because of deaths? Oh wait, there are actually deaths on many high streets and nowt is done about it and no silly videos with dumb comments on utube? I lived in Belgium and there are no gates and fences etc, you can walk across anywhere and it is up to you to use PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY not to get mashed! This country is so nanny state everyone wants spoon feeding!

At least the birds enjoy it. The Trent is a beast even in summertime in parts; a confluence occurs where the Trent and the Soar meet just outside of Shardlow, makes this spot v frightening this time of year. Turns the Swarkestone arable land into what looks like sea. Hope all the sheep were rescued!

@@oddities-whatnot I agree with your comment but my point was more about the fact that there was so much flooding down there it would have been a good experience to fly OVER it all, as per the video, as opposed to standing on the side lines and not getting such a great overall view.

It's a no brainer we need a new Medical Centre fit for purpose ( unlike the Parish Councillors who don't support this opportunity)where do people go to sign the petition ? How short sighted of the current members of the Parish Council. The location is perfect in the hub of the village close to the existing amenities. Let's face it we need it especially with the increase of local population from new builds. Plus a modern health centre would attract new staff which would support and bolster the overworked levels of existing staff. All seems positive to me.
