This just happened at my vacation rental...the only method of making coffee was a keurig that had mold in it! Tried this method, boiled a pod for 10 min and it still was weak as hell....

Thanks John for your most excellent video and helpful explanation. I don't know if I have a bad pump or an actual crack in the reservoir or both. If I fill it completely, then I get a leak, or just halfway, I was getting no leaks. But now I have fluid on my garage floor when the car sits, so I'm thinking now I have 2 problems. I hate to pay the dealership's prices for the parts and work, but I might have no other choice.
@johnkerwin
@johnkerwin 2 ай бұрын
Stuart, after my experience I would replace the pump. You can get them online for a reasonable price, AND the pump is really easy to replace by following the video. Once you replace the pump, fill the reservoir and check for leaks. Turn the car on and test the spray. Unless I saw an obvious leak from the reservoir, I’d park the car in the garage overnight and see if anything leaks overnight. I’m betting that you will be pleasantly surprised that it was just the pump. If it turns out to be the reservoir, there are videos on KZbin that show how to replace that too. The reservoir part is available on Amazon for $35 to $65. That’s not cheap, but it is certainly a lot less than the dealer will charge for it! Good luck. John Kerwin

I’m gonna try it on my 1990 Econoline. I think it’s a little different set up but I’m gonna attempt to find that low port.

Thank you John. I took mine apart and found a tiny leak which rusted the motor completely until it failed to turn. Wished I had inspected and oiled/lubed it and noticed the leak earlier.

Yes that was my problem. My pump was actually cracked. You can see the crack in the last section of the video when I explained what had happened to me.

I recreated the leak and it was leaking from the passenger side of the car not from the reservoir.

I am pretty sure he didn’t intend to imply running the plastic bag through the shredder-he was showing the action of putting paper in the machine without removing it from the bag. I am sure he was assuming we have common sense.
@johnkerwin
@johnkerwin 5 ай бұрын
Larry, you will be surprised to hear that YES, I intended viewers to insert the oil saturated paper WITH the plastic bag into the shredder. There's no good way to handle an oil saturated sheet of paper unless it is in a bag. Some viewers have commented that the plastic bag would get tangled in the shredder, but I've never had a problem like that. Viewers who are worried about the plastic bag can try putting a sheet of paper in the shredder without a bag, and then squirt the lube oil onto the paper as it is being shredded in the machine. The idea is to get a thin coating of oil on the blades and mechanism.

The part number is 98510-2V100 and I found in on Amazon.Com. I don’t remember who the seller was, but there were several sellers that had the authentic part from Hyundai. I initially bought a Chinese “knockoff” for a couple bucks less, but had to return it because it didn’t work.

Thank you, Mr. Kerwin, for this detailed repair video. 👍🏻 This video has helped me many times. 😊 I discovered some tips while lubricating: 1. Some people report success with coconut oil. If you boil 1 tsp of shredded coconut in 1/4 cup of water, the oil rises to the surface. 2. The piston is joined to its connecting rod in a ball-and-socket joint. This joint too must be lubricated. (Terminology is from Wikipedia, "Connecting Rod".) The piston on my Waterpik was quite stiff, as though the old grease had hardened - I don't know how it kept going.

Just a caution here from a 1st time shredder oiler- Lubricator oil is THIN. Cut the bottle tip smaller than you think you need. I spilled shredded oil, which is mostly canola oil, all over the end of my shredder and onto the floor. MESS. I snipped off to about 1/8 inch opening, and that was easily too big.

Thank you for making this so easy for us, just did mine, took less than 20 minutes including draining. Dealer asked 110$ for the one I purchased at Amazon at less than 20$ and including labor the dealer quoted 365$ and it was done at less than 20$ in less than 20 minutes. By the way, I had exactly same motor even with angled notch. Few years ago I gave my car for repairing to a local chain and the issue started. After looking at the old pump, now I think they took my original part and replaced with a broken one. When I went back they said there was a pipe broken and they fixed which they didn't., they used some glue. But I am glad I found your video and I was able to fix it myself.

Dear John, I live in the Middle East and my map for the same model has not been upgraded since 2014. And the worst thing is the dealers here don’t have an upgrade, free or paid. Could you please send me a link or address where I can write or contact them to find a solution. Will highly appreciate it. Thanks 🙏

Show us a demo, and tell us how long you've been doing that. Why did you choose mineral oil over canola, baby oil (same stuff), motor oil, or other oils?

vegetable oils oxidize and become like plastic. never use vegetable oil. never. baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance.

How the hell does the algorithm know this is something that has been on my mind, lately. This is so specific. My sister and I worked on her washer pump a month ago on her 2015 santa fe. But I don't think I ever searched or purchased any thing for this on my own devices or even with a credit card ( she did all of that). So fricken spookey. In the same way that Face book told me I might know people from my child hood ( acrossed the country who I never corresponded with) to connect with on Face book 13-14 years ago. Makes me want to avoid computers.
