Stan Getz has one of the purest, textured sax-sounds. There are handful of the great sax-Meister's, but is my favorite. My opinion is slightly skewed because as a young man, I had the opportunity to see and hear him live at small nightclub in 1973-1974.... One of the best evenings of my life,
Terri you are the best as they come. Listening in 2023.

Stan was great right up to the end. Terry Lynn Carrington was featured on Boston's premier jazz radio show - Eric Jackson - back when she was a teen still getting it together. She was already a killer, and eveyone knew it.

Getz fabulous, Barron terrific. I was turned on to Kenny after hearing his duets with Getz. Check out Barron's "Other Places" CD, really good.

@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out Жыл бұрын
Nein!!!! He said "we'd all like to SOUND like Stan if we could". There is a big difference. Coltrane may have been talking about all aspects of Getz' playing, but I doubt it. I am sure he was talking only about tone. He definitely did not say " we all want to PLAY like Stan". Coltrane did not want to "play like Getz"!!! He didn't want to play like Dexter or Bird either. He wanted to play like Coltrane. Obviously. No true jazz saxophonist and improvisor wants to "play like" any other saxaphonist. "Klingelt wie" does not necessarily mean the same as "Spielt wie" in English or in German. They could mean the same. One might interpret Coltrane's statement to mean "we want to play like Stan" , but that is definitely not what was actually said by Coltrane. P.S. As per usual, as in most German advertising, your Danglish fails. "jazz smells" would be interpreted by any English speaker to mean "jazz stinks". You can say it's funky , but never say it smells. If you tell someone "you smell" it means "du stinkst". If you write "jazz smells", smells isn't read as a noun, it becomes a verb, and it means "jazz stinks". I'm guessing you meant jazz is funky, or to speak poetically about an" aroma of jazz", but only because i have experience here, reading German advertisers attempt to use English in their adverts. Maybe you're looking for something more along the lines of "fragrances of jazz".. or" flavor of jazz" or " a whiff of jazz" . Also, "jazz aromas" doesn't sound right either. Sorry. It only works to say "jazz is funky" or "jazz funk". If you need any more help with your Danglish, feel free to contact me in Francfort am Main. P.P.S. Miles in his book said, in the end, he didn't want to sound like Dizzy. Didn't like the sound of "all those high notes." He tried to copy Diz for a while to make Parker happy, but it didn't make Miles happy, He did not really want to emulate Gillespie's tone or style. So, in that case, he didn't want to even sound like Diz. And, he found out he did not want to play like him either.

Written by a Guy called Victor Feldman a little known Brit who was a virtuoso pianist and all round great great bloke who unfortunately died young from what appears to be a broken heart. Also unfortunately you can see the cancer in Stan's face but his playing is utterly sublime,
