I feel like after watching a video this long in its entirety, I am obligated to let you know that yes, one more person has watched the whole thing. And I might keep this re-running in the background while working every now and then.

Thanks for making this! In the spirit of meta, the only thing I want to say about this video is that I think you should avoid the risk of having this style of video define your channel / internet presence. If you end up telling yourself that nothing you could make would be worthwhile unless it's a multi-hour documentary, you'll burn yourself out.

Excellent video. It's incredible that there's no filler here, just well-paced and interesting analysis for _nine goddamn hours_ You're a madman, and you're a menace to my free time. Thanks.

I just don't understand why you had to reinvent some of the terminology. What you call "infinite checkpoint level" everyone calls "red coin level". What you call "super expert stuff" is widely known as "hot garbage".

I disagree with ur take on glitches (mostly because theres a lot of factors you failed to consider, not necessarily that your point was incorrect) but otherwise i really like the video (at least as far in to it as i am)

I'd say the key to Troll is using the player's expertise against them. Hard levels may sometimes be beaten first try, through either good design or luck. Troll levels cannot be completed on the first try, even something as basic as 'move right' will be subverted at some point, usually with death.

It’s 3AM and I finally finished this after watching about an hour a day for the past week or so. I was so pleasantly surprised by someone’s else’s vast knowledge of this community showing up on my feed and so in love with how you portrayed the community here. I got excited seeing seven stupid pieces, carls psychological plains, master and commander, all the classics. Legit this was my avengers. I think you had a marvelous script too. I loved your setup up about choosing this game for Sagan’s choice of media, and especially how that connects back to our Carl. Thank you for giving me a stroll down memory lane! Also my favorite joke was there only being one #DGR level. On point music that made me laugh😉

As an artist going through a massive years long drought of motivation and art block, this video is super relatable. Seeing the games you talked about especially in the drawing category reminded me of how fun the whole process is, and really reminded me that art doesn't have to be perfect every time. Honestly this feels like the last little push I need to really start creating again, if slowly and with a lot of rust to be shaken off. Great work as always, can't wait to see what you talk about next! <3

ah, great video, you know what, you have inspired me to make art, more or less a youtube video, in the style of those Game Theory videos from 10 years ago where the channel hadnt devolved into FNAF lore.

There's a lot of discussion about if something is art or not. Like, "are videogames art?". "Are product-placement/cash grab movies art?" "Is throwing garbage to the wall art?". I would say that EVERYTHING can be considered art. But Sturgeon's law applies in full force, and 90% of that art is crap. Still that shouldn't stop people from trying to do art. Sometimes it is a situation where the journey is better than the destination.

always good to see a new video from you, and this one's topic really hits home. i personally think that everyone, no matter how "good" or "bad" it looks, can and should draw if thats something that they want to do, and games like the ones you discussed are so important for getting people to take that first step. warioware diy was that game for me personally, if it werent for it, i think i would have given up on art by this point

I really enjoyed watching the original video. I watched it over the course of a few days, and it made me nostalgic for when I watched SMM1 troll videos. Now, based on my experience, to get more exposure on these Shorts, I suggest to uncheck the 'Notify Subscribers' checkbox thingy. It apparently boosts engagement by pushing the video to non-subs. Thanks for making this video essay!
